1. O Abu Thabit, be steadfast in adversity
I implore you not to let your enemy gloat over you

2. Your consolation from Abd al-Aziz is he
Who befits the dignity that rendered you helpless

3. Your pastures that were once melodious
And your land that once flourished beautifully

4. Indeed his affliction shook the pillars of existence
And made the silent lament out of grief

5. So a free soul's grief has stifled her
And from anguish another soul grew faint

6. Death in man is an end to his lifespan
How can we expect to befriend the deceased?

7. Patience deserves that our return be
If not, we would return in sorrow unsuccessful
