1. We wore but did not don the times, and we wore out,
While others follow in our footsteps to ruin.
١. لَبِسْنَا فَلَمْ نُبْلِ الزَّمَانَ وَأَبْلاَنَا
تُتَابِعُ أُخْرَانَا عَلَى الغَيّ أُولاَنَا
2. We are deluded by hopes while life slips away,
But returning to God was not our first concern.
٢. وَنَغْتَرُّ بِالآمَالِ وَالعُمْرُ يَنْقَضِي
فَمَا كَانَ بِالرُّجْعَى إِلَى اللَّهِ أَوْلاَنَا
3. What then can we expect time to await? What can we expect?
It yielded not to stern warning, nor did it bend to us.
٣. فَمَاذَا عَسَى أَنْ يُنْظِرَ الدَّهْرُ مَا عَسَى
فَمَا انْقَادَ لِلزّجْرِ الْحَثِيثِ وَلاَ لاَنَا
4. We rewarded God's work with the worst repayment,
Nor did we heed the forerunners of excellence.
٤. جَزَيْنَا صَنِيعَ اللَّهِ شَرَّ جَزَائِهِ
فَلَمْ نَرْعَ مَا مِنْ سَابِقِ الْفَضْلِ أَوْلاَنَا
5. So O Lord, deal with us as You are worthy,
With pardon, and mend our fractures, You are our Master.
٥. فَيَاربِّ عَامِلْنَا بِمَا أَنْتَ أَهْلُهُ
مِنَ الْعَفْوِ وَاجْبُرْ صَدْعَنَا أَنْتَ مَوْلاَنَا
