صاح ما أعطر القبول بنمه

1. O companion, how fragrant are the settlements with dew!
Do you think it has prolonged its dampness?

١. صَاحِ مَا أَعْطَرَ الْقَبُول بِنَمَّهْ
أَتَرَاهَا أَطَالَتِ اللَّبْثَ ثَمَّهْ

2. It is the abode of love, the aspiration of the soul within,
For ever and ever, and desires gathered.

٢. هِيَ دَارُ الْهَوَى مُنَى النَّفْسِ فِيهَا
أَبَدَ الدَّهْرِ وَالأَمَانِيُّ جَمَّهْ

3. If it was from which the air was perfumed,
And drew fragrance, else it was from them.

٣. إِنْ يَكُنْ مَا تَأَرَّج الْجَوُّ مِنْهَا
وَاسْتَفَادَ الشَّذَى وَإِلاَّ فَمِمَّهْ

4. Who will give my eyes a glance, and my breath,
In its winds and in its soil, a smell?

٤. مَنْ لِطَرْفِي بِنَظْرَةٍ وَلأَِنْفِي
فِي رُبَاهَا وَفي ثَرَاهَا بِشَمَّهْ

5. The past was remembered, so I shuddered, as though
An angel had slapped me suddenly.

٥. ذُكِرَ الْعَهْدُ فَانْتَفَضْتُ كَأَنِّي
طَرَقَتْنِي مِنَ الْمَلاَئِكِ لَمَّهْ

6. A homeland I lived my youth in,
Not sullied by the cold, blameworthy.

٦. وَطَنٌ قَدْ نَضَيْتُ فِيهِ شَبَاباً
لَمْ تُدَنِّسْ مِنْهُ الْبُرُودَ مَذَمَّهْ

7. I turned from it while my soul, because of whom I
Left behind threading through it worried,

٧. بِنْتُ عَنْهُ وَالنَّفْسُ مِنْ أَجْلِ مَنْ قَدْ
خَلَّفْتُهُ خِلاَلَهُ مُغْتَمَّهْ

8. Was a dream. So woe to him who hoped for life
And blinded and deafened him, his ignorance!

٨. كَانَ حُلْماً فَوَيْحَ مَنْ أَمَّلَ الدَّهْ
رَ وَأَعْمَاهُ جَهْلُهُ وَأَصَمَّه

9. I contemplate life after the body was created
And its structure difficult, blameworthy.

٩. تَأَمُلُ الْعَيْش بَعْدَ أَنْ خَلِقَ الْجِس
مُ وَبُنْيَانُهُ عَسِيرُ الْمَرَمَّه

10. And the plentitude of youth turned, despite
Itself, blind.

١٠. وَغَدَتْ وَفْرةُ الشَّبِيبَةِ بِالشَّيْ
بِ عَلَى رَغْمِ أَنْفِهَا مُعْتَمَّهْ

11. So he who made his path to God his destination and refuge
Has indeed succeeded.

١١. فَلَقَدْ فَازَ سَالِكٌ جَعَلَ الل
ه إلى الله قَصْدَهُ وَمَأَمَّهْ

12. Whoever spends the night anxious
From the delusion of worldly life, God will increase his worries.

١٢. مَنْ يَبِتْ مِنْ غُرُورِ دُنْيَا بِهَمٍّ
يَلْدَغُ الْقَلْبَ أَكْثَرَ اللهُ هَمَّهْ
