1. A truthful speech despite remoteness, not deceitful
Its gatherings throng with mourners at his mention

2. And by God an arrow to the target from afar
It hit the mouth of glory, rightly aimed

3. O my companion, my call is a companion's call
Sorrows from all sides have revolved around him

4. Grieving the events of the exalted and the virtues
Its plains and clouds give it life

5. Alas, so weep for the garden of majesty which has perished
When magnanimity shook it and it straightened

6. And the caliphs of the caliphate watered it to the full
And weep for the star of the exalted which has fallen

7. So it brought forth the sun of openness in the robe of openness
So God has a scroll of overflowing virtue

8. And lament in the corners of the tomb which contained
The utmost of munificence and favor, the highest degrees

9. Hold a true mourning for valor and dew
And do not halt the horses of tears up to any extent

10. For a full moon whose light dispelled the wings of darkness, a guide to the guided
And a branch that leaned when it straightened and became gentle

11. And the sword of the Imam whose sheath has been drawn by fate
And do not be comforted by riders who have set out or returned

12. Alas, so weep for the rain of gifts and gentleness
And the lion of evil, the foal of the sweet-smelling steeds

13. It is tears, if cares leave his eyes dry
For the son of Abi 'Amr, his protected essence wasted

14. A knight who stirred stillness in elegy
And the cherished hopes overflowed with sorrow

15. So rouse the cloud of tears, recklessly it comes to him
As it used to aim towards his right

16. And give freely with a flood of tears recklessly it comes to him
As the Pleiades showered favorably on high

17. And say to him whose help is sought when fear seizes him
He hopes for victory from Him over what frightens him

18. So he cries out to Him if terror confines his breast
He is the destined decree, settled is its descent

19. And the moon of nights, no rise hoped for it
And the heart of the sublime, his chest surrendered it

20. And lament, for glory has empowered its dwelling
And shaken from it the arrogant aggressors

21. You have plucked the fruits of might, goodly harvest
And erected the abode of pride, firm is its structure

22. And left in monuments of diffuse fame
Virtues which the ravages of oblivion does not take

23. And you made the stubborn East submissive to the West
And you were secretly inclined to sincerity and openly

24. You were nothing but the sea, the towering mountain, and loftiness
Your brilliance illuminates the shining celestial bodies

25. Yearning for it from a generous stature
Like a meadow bursting in fertile land

26. Its branches waving above ancient roots
And a pearl of glory not matched by any price

27. It wards off from the freeborn all insolence
And how many sublime things you contained

28. And you were only possessing every mark of glory
Foremost in nobility, outstripping in giving gifts

29. Whenever the veiled are mentioned in any gathering
And their realms from every guide and guided

30. And those establishing after them and supported
And their monuments counted from every uniquely adorned

31. As a throat is adorned with a unique pearl
And they were stars in time for the guided

32. So no realms were distinguished like Muhammad’s
And the length of time never boasted of a beloved like him

33. O Muhammad, you attained the most perfect sublimity
So to you fell short all others, though high they rose

34. For you were the life, the moon in munificence and an apex
And a sword with ringing blade, symmetrical in its polish

35. You reached what is beyond, steadily climbing
And elaboration about you flows even if it mounts

36. Nor did the nobility attain what you attained in sublimity
You have no peer in loftiness and nobility

37. You manifested every wonder in governance
With the opinions of a sage in the garb of youth

38. So you confounded the veiled with nobility with a manner
From God and the praiseworthy people, a close affinity

39. And a soul responding to the caller of perfection, melting in shyness
Even if some eminent one among them gains an aspect of favor

40. For you have attained in the Highest every aspect of nobility
You attained perfection so no defects can reach your sublimity

41. You ascended so no ambitious one can reach your position
And the spacious, abundant riches hastened to your glory

42. And by you terrors and fears were repelled though retreating
If you wish for sincerity, then sincere is your heart

43. O you pearl, none who dives has ever seized the like
Inherited traits have borne you to genuine, noble glory

44. Falling short of which are the progeny of Zayd and the beloved
It is clear, certainly not “perhaps” or “maybe”

45. And what can the guardian avail or sorrow benefit?
If grief or anguish were of use

46. Our breaths would not have found relief
So how vast between one who demolished the structure and one who laid its foundation

47. And they are not equal, whether the world did good or evil
You regarded the world with praise, sanctified

48. And journeyed pure of blameworthy defects
Thus is the case, cure is not by “if only” or “woe is me”

49. I treat my anguish when the night maddens me
And it makes me drink the draft of tears and woe is me

50. Yet I do not refrain from my grief over you
So what is sweet of my life has not solaced me

51. I say to whoever wants my consolation “Leave me”
By God, my tears do not flow, though woe is me

52. I restrain them like the customary rising celestial bodies
You wore contentment in the beginning and end

53. And defended your Master from every disaster
You remained when every task was sufficient for you

54. And did not flag in distant, lofty aspirations
And you were the most deserving of sincerity of the loyal

55. So you were sanctified from a generous, eminent lineage
And the Merciful sheathed you with mercy from Himself

56. Conveying you the greatest proximity and ascent
You left a land whose delusions you knew

57. And parted from its abundance and emptied its abodes
And accompanied the maidens of Paradise and its beauties

58. And he who brought good forward found its recompense good
So your Lord multiplied the light in your abode

59. And delighted you with it and its joy
And settled you in the highest of the Gardens, its castles

60. Where the trailing celestial bodies greet you
Upon the like, separation makes the separating gray

61. And does misfortune err the person struck by misfortunes?
Indeed, the beloved departure has wearied me

62. So my heart and my dear ruby and glittering eyes
I am bereft of my treasure in you and time is thieving

63. Sorrow accompanies your love, no gleam shines
Upon you, the greetings of God whenever dawn shone

64. And the leaves of doves stirred, the trailing clouds
No equal is hoped for it, neither “perhaps” nor “maybe”
