Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return

أنا إلى الله وإنا له

1. Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return
How preoccupied man becomes from his own status

١. أِنَّا إِلَى اللهِ وَإِنَّا لَهُ
مَا أَشْغَلَ الإِنْسَانَ عَنْ شَانِهِ

2. He finds comfort in clothes with which he is adorned
Yet the shroud's thread remains separated for his burial

٢. يَرْتَاحُ لِلأَثْوَابِ يُزْهَى بِهَا
وَالْخَيْطُ مَعْزُولٌ لأَكْفَانِهِ

3. He hoards money for his inheritor
Exhausting the extent of his goblets

٣. وَيَخْزُنُ الفَلْسَ لِوَارِثِهِ
مُسْتَنْفِداً مَبْلَغَ أَكْوَانِهِ

4. He neglected the transient life of a man
And turned to Him his eye of knowledge

٤. قَوَّضْ عَنِ الْفَانِي رِحَالَ امْرِىءٍ
مَدَّ إِلَيْهِ عَيْنَ عِرْفَانِهِ

5. There remains nothing but the present stance
Justice has been entrusted with its measuring

٥. مَا ثَمَّ إِلاَّ مَوْقِفٌ رَاهِنٌ
قَدْ وُكِلِ العَدْلُ بِمِيرَانِهِ

6. A neglectful one suffers for his neglect
While a good-doer is rewarded for his goodness

٦. مُفَرِّطٌ يَشقَى بِتَفْرِيطِهِ
وَمُحْسِنٌ يُجْزَى بِإِحْسَانِهِ
