1. My soul is like one afflicted with black bile,
Therefore the heart cannot find comfort.
١. بنَفْسي حالِكٌ شِبْهُ السُّوَيْدا
لذَلِكَ ما يَحِنُّ لهُ الفُؤادُ
2. I give it my full attention and consideration,
For the eye finds darkness beneficial.
٢. أُطيلُ لهُ الْتِفاتي والتِماحي
لأنّ العَيْنَ ينْفَعُها السّوادُ
