1. He who did his work on the day of Fil al-Habash
When all they sent out were corpses
١. وَمَن صُنعِهِ يَومَ فَيلِ الحَبوش
إِذ كُلُّ ما بَعَثوه رَزَم
2. Their sacs beneath their necks
With their noses split and broken
٢. مَحاجنُهم تَحتَ أَقرابهِ
وقَد شَرَموا أَنفَهُ فانخَرم
3. They had made his whip into storms
Whenever he turned it, mouths were silenced
٣. وقَد جَعلوا سوطَهُ مِغولاً
إِذا يَمَّموهُ فَفاهَ كلم
4. So he turned away, retreating
And he who was there was smitten with injustice
٤. فَوَّلى وأَدبَر أَدراجَهُ
وقَد باءَ بالظُلمِ مَن كانَ ثم
5. Then from above them he sent down a punishment
Which gathered them up like a shepherd gathering sheep
٥. فاَرسل مِن فَوقَهُم حاصِباً
فَلفَّهمُ مِثلَ لفِّ القَزَم
6. Their priests recommend patience
Though they bleat like thirsty sheep
٦. تَحضُّ عَلى الصَبرِ أَحبارَهُم
وقَد ثأَجوا كثُؤاجِ الغَنَم
