1. Alas! Did you weep for the generous ones
Among the generous, O you who praise the noble!

2. Like pigeons weeping for the nests
On the branches of the lofty trees

3. Crying mournfully, wailing,
Moaning with the winds

4. Like the wailing bereaved women
Among the mourners in lament

5. Whoever weeps for them, weeps for sorrow
And believes all who praise

6. How few are the nights between Badr
And Uhud of close combat!

7. So the defender with lightning spears
The compassionate in the heat of battle

8. Shumut and Shubban the fearless
The resolute warriors and brave

9. Do you not see as I see
And it is clear to every keen-sighted one

10. That the heart of Mecca has changed
And it has become desolate and empty

11. Of every generous man, and every
Pure-faced, straightforward man

12. And the doors of kings are shut
Against the torn garment and petitioner

13. And from the vulgar riffraff
The brazen impudent and scheming

14. Who command and execute
Every vile deed

15. Who stuff the bread's top with fat
Fat likeprobes

16. Moving carrion with carrion
To further carrion like ladles

17. They are not empty bags to whoever tracks
Nor easy game for the hunter

18. Give hundreds to the hundreds
To further hundreds of marriages

19. For the guest, then the guest
After the guest with food and bowls spread

20. For their trade sent abroad
From a barren land

21. They have advantage over the generous
Like weights tipping the scales

22. A faction betrayed them
As they protected damaged honor

23. Striking reform with sharpened swords
Indeed their voices carried me

24. From among the imploring and screaming
For God's sake, the Banu Ali's pearls

25. Be they chaste or married
Will change an arid thicket

26. That chirps at every yelping
With deceptive actions, ambitions

27. Yearnings with longings
Back to a bare standoff

28. To a lion's snapping with gnashing
And horn will meet horn

29. The stride of wrestler meeting wrestler
With about a thousand then a thousand

30. Between the mighty and the spears
