1. Happiness appeared, so my heart is saturated,
Yet the free-spirited girl has broken her promises,

2. As if she were an untamed gazelle obeyed by
A herd traversing the heights or valleys.

3. She stood before you at dawn after separation
Her tresses dangling over her necklace like bunches of grapes,

4. Cool, fragrant, sweet, kissing him,
Her growth nourished by the darkness yet manifest.

5. With shyness that stirs her features
I entreated her till she severed friendship.

6. I tasked her, so she saw the sincerity of my task,
And intimacy like the roar of blazing fire.

7. In an undertaking of perilous war which threatens ruin
Whose echo by night startles none asleep.

8. When she complained of the whereabouts to me I said:
Find no rest unless I meet with one fortunate,

9. Until I meet a dignified man whose talents
Are easy disposition, open-handedness and praise.

10. And though I’ve heard praise for some people, never
Have I heard the like of you in forbearance or munificence,

11. Or chastity or patience in misfortune,
Nor shall I spread falsehood about you, O Chief.

12. Neither your forbearance—forbearance is found in you—
Nor your bounty are sought yet fail among men.

13. You have surpassed the goals of generosity, and you
Resemble your noble forefathers, elite knights.

14. This is my ode for your benevolence,
You remain the delight of the eye, envied forever.
