11. I protected myself from joining a people consumed by greed to the utmost extent they desired

12. Fate persists doing whatever it wills, and was not seen destroying what it built
Promising wealth so it does not betray its promise, and pardons so it breaks its appointment

13. Far off is the goal of what the enemies said - none attains perfection unless increasing
He surpassed the richest ones of his time, so rightly he settled at the highest abodes while they settled the lowlands

14. They were humble, he was chosen; they were mighty, and they were lowly
They loved and he transcended; they flagged and he was lofty; they hoarded and he gave generously

15. Sublimities that encompassed Rabiah with glory and Ka'b and singled out Ashadd
And feats which hopes did not fall short of except to frustrate the envious

16. It closed its regions to the people, inhabited by its settlers, and its cheeks were not covered in blackness
O son of those who subjugated misfortunes with valor and time gave them leadership

17. Among kings owning the imperial cities, and kings who pitched tents in Baghdad
A people - if they incline to generosity and hospitality they sacrifice the generous and noble

18. And refuse that any striver attain glory which was not attained through them
So you have outshone this world in ancestry, and outshone the ancestors and forefathers

19. You attained length, ambition, position, heights and succor and nobility
And refused what the mourning white flags refused forever clothing the women in mourning

20. Refined ones - if your displeasure provoked them they sheathed the sword blades
If they spoke of who lived alongside him they would mention Tubba and not forget Aad

21. And war mares with neighing that outpaces conjecture when others compete with steeds
They repel attacks while they are wild casting might, and they charge with neighing squadrons

22. If they intend far off it becomes near or if they enter the seas it turns solid
They never ceased expanding the Caliphate by victory, striving, and the polytheists, with jihad

23. Risings that weakened the power of Rome’s King, so the ground settled with them or almost
And his Great City’s defenders came down, who feel no pain from flogging

24. They sacrifice themselves obeying God, hoping for reward, and remembering the return
Whoever seeks your glory wholeheartedly, will attain it, and whoever you sheltered will never be touched

25. The Romans sheathed protecting it with the white swords, and they did not set out to the called trenches
And if its kindling fire sleeps and turns to ashes, the ashes deserve to shift and return

26. Many intended affairs, their leader does not plot, and birthed affairs their newborn does not call for
They came from resolves of old, their arrows do not exceed equilibrium

27. Truthful ones as if between their predestined deaths and them is an appointed time
And the remedy for the disease which crept into the minds frightening them and ripping the livers

28. A tribute which if you accept ensures safety of the souls from leaving the bodies
Or going out from it for now is the time for travel after procrastination to retrieve it

29. How many a champion wanted to contain it finding it champion, Most High, difficult to attain
And God refused to share it with another, honoring its exclusivity and inimitability

30. Kings who abandoned the honor of supremacy have coerced it, and they deemed the heights lowly
O sons of Salih through whom the times improved, and it used to not lack corruption

31. And for a time I never ceased to ask about you, so seeing you sufficed me the proof
And I saw the seas had sufficed to prevent the fleets from sending to it dispatchers

32. And you coveted generous deeds and were found to be ascetics while I see others ascetics
Many an honorable one attained immortality taking praise as provision and supplies

33. With continuous giving of millions and thousands and found in those you see, individuals
While your equal, if he takes on vain things, and they be few, exaggerates their worth

34. Mankind feels at peace in the shade of your neighborhood you have expanded and prolonged
And your days of rule have succeeded continuously, so we scarcely recognize celebrations

35. And you united divergent opinions afterward with a reasonable view reconciling opposites
And by the judgment of opinions alone, 'Amr was given Egypt and the son of Hind gained increase

36. You have multiplied the kings in grace, ennoblement, and justice so enumerate them as sons
And recite good tidings of every courageous, secure tribe fearing to aggress or devour

37. That you may see in their presence lions, and in their grandchildren descendants lions
Live well-composed whom destitution has made forget misery utterly and live well-watered whom you have loosened from the shackles

38. And let your commanding authority gain penetration and let your enemies' plots gain futility
You guarded me from shedding the water of my face (tears), and you have attained glory never to be attained

39. So I will maintain praise of you as long as words can last, until the return perpetually
With rhymes that will not leave your glorious praise, intending the horizons

40. Protected by the one who poured his treasure to her trousseau and chosen her best selection
From an ignorant one counting her among his enemies and a foe who flees upon hearing her

41. Ugly that I claim virtue regarding her after she has spoken your brilliance to the inanimate
