1. I see folly, even if the prudent comes
With truth that I should say what he says

2. I am not inclined to blame
Nor do I accept rebuke

3. How can an ailing man with chronic ills
Bear a remedy that gives him no relief?

4. I yearn for the abodes though they are desolate
As the bewildered camel yearns for its herd

5. I miss the homes and their dwellers
And weep for their estrangement now and then

6. For their remoteness, as the departure nears
Grief and estrangement left no tears

7. With which the milestones and hills are soaked
And I am relieved by precious sorrow

8. That humble patience tries in vain to conquer
I thanked the gentle breeze, may God reward it

9. For to me, when it blows, it brings a messenger
Who carries my greetings to Salma

10. Its reply the breeze brings back
Before the slanderers, our kin were exposed

11. While they were still clans, not yet settled
Obstacles that make the nearby seem distant

12. And on its path, access cannot reach
By Abu Muzaffar if a misfortune befalls

13. A refuge of its dens consoles me
With it, the sins of nights were atoned

14. And time fulfilled its prolonged promise
It brought to the valley of blessings, power

15. That diminishes what would otherwise appall
It destroyed opposition and immortalized fame

16. What is firm falters, but not what falters
Safety that makes days wonder

17. Justice unmatched in equity
Its gifts encircle the nearby and the distant

18. But never achieved comprehensiveness
Efforts that paved the way to glories

19. With no means left to reach them now
Its tales spread until scholar and ignorant were equal

20. In knowing what it hides and reveals
Whoever possessed a firm kingdom and fortune

21. Knew he had found an unparalleled gain
The nobility of kings rose with no guide

22. By ways no guide had known before
For him, acts of generosity came easily

23. While the arduous became smooth
A gift that brings life to the destitute

24. While grudges and sorrows perish
A resolve not right nor left

25. A view steady, neither failing nor inclining
It protected all of Levant with its swords

26. Though steeds were not trotted out or mobilized
Nor did the enemy delight hearing

27. The trilling of horses mingled with neighing
So when the caliphate sword is unsheathed

28. No warrior can withstand its sharpness
No attentive ear inclines wherever passion leans

29. However way it sways
All enemies of this kingdom are captive

30. And your awe fills mosques and every dune
You fear no harm from the scattered and killed

31. Though many were cast out and slain
None who bestow are disappointed but those

32. Who shortened your gift or refused it outright
You merit the ransom of one whose integrity fears

33. And one whose wisdom is idle
In the heart of power lies a sickness

34. That engulfed it while pretenders surround
A deluded one who saw valor bring ruin

35. Then persisted to entreat and resign
Like a torrent a towering dune resisted

36. Until the valley became its conduit
So it was an aim that strayed into error

37. Until the original view prevailed
Its beginning was transgression and estrangement

38. Its end affection, even submission
The goal of one who invaded for spoils

39. Yet his demands exhausted him into retreat
His hopes were dashed and he recovered friendship

40. Not with the time, but with whom in it he raged
If swords and steeds fail, the Book and Messenger do not

41. For the Romans, misguidance is never lacking
Emboldened by vain hopes though impossible

42. When intellects betray, hopes too betray
So they denied you your right and substituted

43. An alternative, but no substitute proved firm
You relinquished the horse though they intended

44. Resistance, and so all were brought down
By forcing compliance you would have been justified

45. By restoring it, generous and reliable
Men break pacts they make treacherously

46. While yours no hands can break or change
He whom you empower none can humble

47. He whom you humble none can uplift
Do branches disobey resolute pillars

48. When fundamentals do not defy rules?
How then when steeds are trotted out

49. Stallions over stallions twofold
Their gain clad in every war

50. With no wounds their slaughter to hinder
Dyeing the dawn the crimson of blood

51. As dark nights and havoc come full circle
Your resolve refused to let the pit swallow victory

52. No remnants of the enemy swords remain
So an age you grace boasts of you

53. For you are the hand that controls time
It undertakes, to refute claims of stinginess

54. While even the stingy can appear giving
You persist in glory only

55. If fooled persist in their ignorance
My words surpassed your bounty and of old

56. I surpassed benefactors in what I profess
By them I attained my hopes and came closer

57. To their nearest, though long the way
Fate turned to me today in your shadow

58. While without you its edge remains barren
I was its moving target until

59. The shade of your gifts, ample, covered me
I will give thanks, eschewing praise

60. That falls short however prolonged
Weightless, though to enviers a burden

61. Settled, while in life roaming
Scribed on pages rolled and unrolled

62. Its merit carried on generations
Stars in the sky of your ascension, blossoms

63. That never cease or fall dark
