1. I said, "And who is Jabir?" He said, "A man
From Mazin, whose story you do not ignore

2. He was brave, a hero, very strong
Yet he was not of sound opinion

3. He marched out with his troops and met
An expanse of sand and more stars

4. They said to him, "O Jabir, it's defeat,
We see our lives now as booty"

5. He said, "How ugly for the Arabs to say
That I flee from death out of fear"

6. And he brandished his sword at the brigade
Yet his prowess was nothing special

7. He did not stop striking them until he was killed
His troops fled and fell battered

8. So composure and planning are the spirit of resolve
No good in resolve without composure

9. Then my saddle slid down from its place
And I choked, overwhelmed by grief

10. Nothing of me remained but my head
And I screamed a voice not human

11. With a terrible, mighty cry
They feared it and prepared to flee

12. Then they came following the voice
And I saw when I saw the dead

13. The she-camel said, "Who is that screamer?"
I said, "A messenger and trusted advisor

14. From the mighty King of Jinn with horns
And he and his people are right behind

15. He sent me to you as a warner
Of his might and chose me as envoy

16. In human form - am I safe?
Move back so the place is vacant"

17. So they moved back and I went out slowly
And said, "I'm not afraid of you

18. For behind me are the armies of Jinn
To ward off enemies, all together, from me"

19. They heard what the she-camel mentioned
And fate led him to misery

20. For criticizing our fellow men
And the honorable, noble masters

21. And accusing them of what he fabricated
Insulting them when he blamed them

22. "And he asks who will question him
About the nobility of men and debate him"

23. "Here I am, their representative, so speak
For I guarantee their victory

24. And I have no personal interest or goal
In this except truth and integrity"

25. "The King of Jinn is close, listening
And he is lethal poison for the unjust

26. I'm not a human for you to ascribe
Obstinacy or lies to me

27. So which of you will be active in debate?
Get together for consultation and discussion"

28. The predators said, "This is mere argument
And we altogether reject it

29. The likes of us are for war and fighting
Not for debates - that is for others

30. Debating does not suit our ferocity
Nor truth and guidance our intensity"

31. That is for the heavens and the tongue
And recognizing superiority and inferiority

32. The elephants said, "The horses and cattle
Should not be blamed for that

33. For they are wronged with their burdens
Carrying loads against their will and humiliation"

34. The beasts said, "We are like slaves to them
And we are blamed for supporting them

35. For whoever lives with people one day
Supports them and fears no blame

36. It would be shameful and ugly for us
To show ingratitude instead of gratitude

37. One day's company is considered kinship
And a bond the sensible preserves

38. None looks down on companionship except an ignorant one
Or one heedless of guidance, lost

39. Never will we meet them with eternal war
Or intentionally seek to harm them"

40. At this the ostriches said to the camel,
"Get down, for you are only a mirage

41. This intellect of yours is lost in your body
If only your kind were like birds!

42. For your body is just a useless form,
Empty of intellect, vacant"

43. The speaker spoke true in his words:
"Greatness is not in the size of bones

44. No good in the largeness of bodies
Rather, it is in intellects and minds"

45. The camel said, "And why do you insult me and slander?
The worst of men is one who is not just"

46. The ostrich said, "I blame you, not humans"
The camel said, "The opinion has drowned, not sunk

47. You claim their right upon you
Is definite and that you are slaves

48. And that in their good and kindness
You must propagate gratitude religiously"

49. "This is undoubtedly an oversight from you
So look with the eye of one rational, o fool

50. They did not honor you or draw you near
Out of love by which they singled you out

51. Rather, they summoned you for their own benefit
Their souls' nature is to exploit you

52. Without you, their affairs would not be orderly
Nor their occupations possible

53. They distributed you in the matters intentionally
And assigned you ranks for service

54. The horses for war and beauty
The camels for loading and traveling

55. The donkeys and mules likewise
And oxen for tilling and labor

56. And for food, whenever scarcity intensifies
All of you, especially sheep

57. So what favor do they have over you?
What charity do they give to you?

58. The favor is rather for those who favor
Without favoring you, o neglectful one!

59. As for one who intends benefiting himself
By doing good and loving those in his command

60. He has no praise or merit
Since people's deeds have categories

61. One gives you out of generosity and nobility
So whoever denies that has wronged

62. Another gives you for the reward
Like one who lends for repayment

63. And another gives you for self-interest
Or a need that has befallen him

64. That is like a trading partner
Seeking profit and attainment

65. So none of them are praiseworthy
Except one who intends pure good

66. Yes, people are certainly harsh with you
Indicating the cruelty of their nature

67. Overburdening beyond what can be endured
Beating you, insulting and exhausting you

68. And eating your meat after
Raising you, not honoring guarantees

69. Slaughtering your young without mercy
So where is the goodness of their promise and nobility?

70. Rather, your example in thanking them
Despite the evil you receive from them

71. Is like the donkey and hybrid mule
In bygone days of old
