1. He endowed her with kindness and hastened
To hang her slipper on the beak of the tent.
١. حباها بإحسانٍ وبادرَ مُسرعا
إلى وَتِد المنقارِ عَلَّق خُفَّها
2. And whenever her ugly deed aggrieved him,
He would wet the back of his hand and then slap her face.
٢. وكان إذا ما غاظَه قبحُ فِعلِها
يَبُلُّ قفاهُ ثم يَصفَع كَفَّها
