1. Baghdad is a land whose gardens are springs,
And whose rain in its prime is bountiful.
١. بغدادُ دارٌ رياضُها أُنُفُ
والغيثُ في عنفوانِها يَكفُ
2. Along with the permutations of its pleasant essence,
My stay in it is an honor like its stature.
٢. ومَع تصاريفِ طِيبِ لذَتِها
مُقامُ مثلي بمثلها شَرَفُ
3. Since all who reside and settle it
Are gems when examined closely.
٣. إذ كلُّ مَن حلَّها وأُوطِنَها
جواهرُ عند كسرِها خَزَفُ
4. And if you see the clothes being thin,
Those are pearls with oyster shells inside.
٤. وإن رأيتَ الثيابَ رائقةً
فتلكَ درٌّ في جوفِها صَدَفُ
