1. They claimed my soul's a pearl
Beyond words, my body a shell

2. By God, I know it not
In morals there's nothing as vile

3. I only know my body
And see its joined limbs

4. Oh me, I inhabit this prison
Which no doubt consumes my soul

5. O students, had I been with you
My soul wouldn't yearn for my family

6. I set free my generosity upon you
You are to me the noblest substitute

7. By the chief of wise men hoped for
He is to me a well-adorned paradise

8. A sun of glory seen never
Eclipsed from the highest heavens

9. Too lofty to be described his glory
Greater than any attribute

10. Had I been able, my phrases
In his abode's corners would've lodged

11. Through him the world boasts
Now spurned without him

12. I love the students without
Praise, all being knowledgeable

13. Among them Ibn Yahya reviver of dew
Increased in generosity over predecessors

14. He realized the nickname from his father
Generosity and congenial nature

15. They from ascending from chiefs
Through their glory unparalleled

16. Do not compare them to all people
Lest you compare pearl to shell

17. For Ibrahim did not lower the heights
Who called him mortal, how unjust!

18. O chief of wise men, seek from him
The choicest unmarried daughter of thought

19. I sent my son to complain
Of a time rarely equitable
