1. He feared falling so he took to destroying,
A king who lives on spilled blood.

2. He feared falling so he set about establishing his kingdom,
With swords, shackles and torture.

3. He filled the prisons and poured all kinds of tribulations,
Yet he wants a throne crowded with hearts.

4. He turned matters upside down to reveal them,
Yet he wants a kingdom that is not overturned.

5. He tries to make the days go back to what they were,
When they had risen up to wage wars.

6. He implores fate to have mercy on his weakness,
And give him glory that is not ruined.

7. This is the impossible matter itself!
Can a sun that has set for the sunset shine?

8. O precious poet of Yemen, have patience,
Patience is the lot of every outcast.

9. Do not fret even if you are struck by disaster,
Calamity has shaken the throne of glory.

10. The wicked one destroyed the house while he was confused,
By what you provoked with your threat.

11. You disturbed his sleep so he sent an army,
To cure him with the horror of destruction.

12. Or his soul suggested to him that you were under it,
So he went searching for you like a robbed man.

13. Or he thought he had killed you by destroying it,
Yet here you are, living a life of lamenting.

14. You robbed him of thought until he,
Forgot blame and the sting of reproach.

15. He forgot manliness when desire overwhelmed him,
So he quenched his wrath as you can see with ruin.

16. His hands demolished the eminent house,
While religion was held back from it with a stick.

17. The soldiers beat the devotees when they defended it,
And what was plundered from it.

18. And so it was for us, but all of it
Is easy compared to the beloved homeland.

19. I ransom you, my precious homeland, with my soul
And my noble children and every relative.

20. Do not despair, my country, of the glory
From which the world took the perfect share.

21. We have vowed that you will succeed
And your matter will be fulfilled, despite every doubter.

22. The tyrant is of no benefit with his torture,
No matter how he varies torturing you.
