صواب لعيني أن تصوب دموعها

1. It is right for my eyes to aim their tears,
Though the slanderers have bared their fangs.

١. صَوابٌ لِعَيني أَن تَصوبَ دُموعُها
وَقَد شَمَّرَت بِالظاعِنينَ القَلائِصُ

2. I turned towards them an eye hot with pain,
While its humanity was sunk in the sea of tears.

٢. صَرَفتُ إِلَيهِم طَرفَ عَينٍ سَخينَةٍ
وَإِنسانُها في لُجَّةِ الدَمعِ غائِصُ

3. In the morning, when their departure dragged on-
The open spaces of al-Fayyaf, and the lofty sand dunes.

٣. صَباحاً وَقَد طالَت دُوَينَ شُخوصِهِم
فِساحُ الفَيافي وَالأَكامُ الشَواخِصُ

4. O Sabaak! Do not let it get the better of you, now that
The gleam of gray hair has appeared, illuminating the parting.

٤. سَباكَ وَلا يَغلِب عَلَيكَ وَقَد بَدا
شُعاعُ مَشيبٍ في المَفارِقِ وابِصُ
