The mourners, meteors falling,

2. And the swooning of Egypt and the East
And the state of poetry and literature

3. A world that settles today in a grave
And a folded newspaper of glory

4. And a traveled one going to immortality
Blessed without number preceded him

5. This is the soil of generous Egypt, and how
You honored it and remembered it

6. You meet in the bosom of the beloved, so sleep
In light, not in the darkness of the grave

7. How many buried ones you went to revive
And you resurrected them and relieved their estrangement

8. So descend on it honored in it
O you who have long sanctified its soil

9. O you who descended the desolate desert
Watered with silence and nothingness

10. The tears flowed profusely in it
And sorrows flowed in it from the beginning

11. This is a road we have gotten used to
We walk behind a dear mourner

12. How many loved ones we cried over
Were not erased from eternity or mind

13. And as if your day in its agony
Is the first of days in grief

14. As if the one crying with his tear
Had never tasted before you the affliction of sorrow before you

15. So go as the day went, passed away
Bidden farewell by the tears of sunset

16. And disappear as the ray fulfilled, passed away
The wings of night fluttered over it

17. You were nothing but a nation that went away
And genius is the nation of nations

18. Or a torch our sights averted
And a lighthouse erected on a flag

19. O sleeping one who spent the night in a dwelling
The world and what's beyond distanced him

20. Where are the stars, I compose what I wish
Poetry like your eternal poetry

21. But if you knew of my sorrow
Would leave me no patience or effort

22. So excuse me until a day we bade you farewell in
