1. One serene evening,
though serenity was absent from my soul.

2. Night descends upon my heart,
while the moon climbs the dome of the sky.

3. When the clouds spread out white,
like the gowns of a wedding across the horizon,

4. one cloud dresses another,
choosing for it what it desires.

5. Or it sheds the cloud to reveal itself
like a child molded from light.

6. The universe in its youth does not cease
renewing beauty and joy.

7. Yet the universe does not cease while
death crept into my soul.

8. From wakefulness to weariness,
and from weariness to wakefulness.

9. How much we endured, how patient we were,
for life is patience and dignity.

10. How much we forgot, how much we erased,
how much we forgave those who did wrong.

11. We did not reproach a loved one,
rather, we reproached destiny.
