1. A downpour in the desert revived us at times
O poet of the generation, the generation was thirsty

2. We used to live in this world with some hope
Building from the promised hope a world

3. So now you have achieved what was awaited
From it, though it glittered with the promise at times

4. It came with more beautiful than shaking rhetoric and than
Restoring the glory of rhymes as it was

5. The breeze of the Nile shook herself with joy
And offered to the prince of poetry a basil

6. What can we say and express after you were preceded
With testimony from the honor of our teacher

7. You established proof of the genius of poetry
And before that you were a role model in morals

8. With two verses of loyalty to her who left
You who preserved the memory and protected us

9. She who made life pleasant and enjoyable
And made your inhabited house a garden

10. If for a moment your eyes turned towards that tomb
Seeking love they will not differ

11. And a sign of loyalty to the departed whom
The incidents of time drew forgetfulness

12. The era of Al-Rashid and the era of glory at a time
In which the kingdom of the Arabs was strengthened

13. And the era of Baghdad where living was splendid
Swaying with infatuation or shaking with joy

14. Its glory while being deadly to Ja'far
And the sword dripping with hatred and hostility

15. Oh what a coating that covers souls, for how long
Did it coat souls with layers of deception

16. That nature nothing changes it
In it sleeps the imagination of murder and fangs

17. Greed awakens it, and glory awakens it
And woe if the deadly snake wakes us

18. You have been rewarded for the language of eloquence and its nation
With a long life, and honor, and kindness
