1. Darkness descended when I stood still
Nothing left but my tears and farewell

2. The eagle swooped down on the houses and wrapped me
In its wings and shaded me with darkness

3. The torrent flooded the cities and villages
And surged like the billowing, swelling sea

4. My soul told me I was drowning
Helpless in its endless tide

5. To which land can I now move, weary
Carrying my body and wreckage

6. The earth narrowed around me, though it’s a wasteland
Beyond the stretch of thoughts and fantasies

7. I was still like a grave, then the winds
Ravaged me therein like one sick with insomnia

8. Woe if you sense that you have lost me
As if you started kneading my very bones

9. Enough wavering, pointing at me, saying
“Who can recover what the archer has shot?”

10. So I shook off death though it hounded me
Wherever I turned, I don’t see you before me

11. I will pass through any serried regiments
And push on to protect you, through any throng

12. I blocked off the world and its shackles
And the stumbling blocks of minds and intellects

13. When alone, an hour comes upon us
When passion sleeps in its soft shade

14. It tilted on the horizon of life and illuminated
And sparkled in the mind’s days

15. How many visions difficult for me were unveiled
And I saw them in the eyes of inspiration

16. And happiness that fled, hard to attain
I hunted it in the bliss of dreams

17. And I knew the taste of tranquility, I who
Never found an hour of comfort and peace
