١. طابت بك الأيامُ وافرحتاه
أنتِ الأماني والغنى والحياة
2. The lost one has found the light of guidance,
Oh you, his dream, his star, his idol,
٢. قد وَجَدَ الضليلُ نورَ الهُدى
يا حلمه يا نجمه يا سناه
3. Let the night leave, we forgive it,
As long as this morning stays lit up,
٣. فليذهب الليلُ غفرنَا له
ما دامَ هذا الصبحُ عقبى دجاه
4. Your pure beauty to me is like,
A heart's faith in the humility of prayers,
٤. جمالُكِ الطاهرُ عندي له
إيمانُ قلبٍ في خشوعِ الصلاة
5. And my inclination is towards that beauty,
With your authority I have honor and status,
٥. وَلي إلى ذاك الجمالِ اتجاه
ولي بسلطانِكِ عزٌّ وجاه
6. A tired young man has come knocking on the door,
His travels made him tired and weary,
٦. قد طَرَقَ البابَ فتىً متعبُ
طالَ به السيرُ وكلَّت خطاه
7. He has wandered the days moving his feet,
Seeking a vision embodied in his ultimate goal,
٧. نَقَّلَ في الأيامِ أقدامَه
يبغي خيالاً ماثلاً في مُناه
8. In you, he has laid down his travel bags,
And in the sanctuary of your beauty, he has cast away his staff,
٨. عندَكِ قد حَطَّ رحالَ المنى
وفي حِمَى حسنِك أَلقَى عصاه
9. Where is the noisy misery in my blood,
That bitter suffering took me to its end,
٩. أينَ شقاءٌ صاخبٌ في دمي
جَرَّعَني الضنكُ إلى منتهاه
10. If it mocks me loudly,
With the laughter of gloating and the madness of tyrants,
١٠. له إذا دوَّى به ساخراً
ضِحكُ التَشَفِّي وجنونُ الطغاة
11. Thanks to one who came down from above,
Who challenged misfortune and made it fail,
١١. شكراً لذاتٍ هبطت من عَلٍ
تَحَدَّتِ النحسَ فشُلَّت يداه
12. With what hand did you stab his heart,
That it died in my heart even its echo,
١٢. بأيِّ كفٍّ طعنت قلبَه
فماتَ في قلبي حتَّى صداه
13. The night has calmed and the planets have moved on,
Except a wakeful companion singing his sorrows,
١٣. قد هَدَأ الليلُ وران الكرى
إِلا أخَا سهدٍ يغني شجاه
14. Calling you from the furthest place, so listen,
To one whose call echoed all through the nights,
١٤. ناداكِ من أقصى الربى فاسمعي
لِمَن على طولِ الليالي نِدَاه
15. Calling out longingly, unable to sleep from his passions,
A dear one whom he loves has denied him,
١٥. نادَى أليفاً نام عن شجوهِ
عذبٌ تجنِّيهِ عزيزٌ جناه
16. I loved you with love, and sang of it,
Exciting wishes, passion and lips,
١٦. أحبّكِ الحبَّ وغنى به
عفَّ الأماني والهوى والشفاه
17. For love is only talk of the most high,
Hymn of eternity, and we are its chanters.
١٧. وإنما الحبُّ حديثُ العلى
أنشودةُ الخلدِ ونحنُ الرواه
