1. The mixture has clarified and the sieve raised,
So his heart clung to the living.
١. بانَ الخَليطُ وَرُفِّعَ الخِرقُ
فَفُؤادُهُ في الحَيِّ مُعتَلِقُ
2. They prevented their divorce and their goal,
The day they parted, and their pledge was locked.
٢. مَنَعوا طَلاقَهُمُ وَنائِلُهُم
يَومَ الفِراقِ وَرَهنُهُم غَلَقُ
3. They cut off the flowers, and they were confined by them
The day of departure to Al 'Alaq ways.
٣. قَطَعوا المَزاهِرَ وَاِستَتَبَّ بِهِم
يَومَ الرَحيلِ لِلَعلَعٍ طُرُقُ
4. It grazes the meadows of Al Akhramayn for them
In it are abundant watering places for it.
٤. تَرعى رِياضَ الأَخرَمَينِ لَهُم
فيها مَوارِدُ ماؤُها غَدَقُ
5. With the sand dune of Harbah or Hawmal
Or less than it, from a healer lightning.
٥. بِكَثيبِ حَربَةَ أَو بِحَومَلَ أَو
مِن دونِهِ مِن عالِجٍ بُرَقُ
6. Your heart was fulfilled when it was presented to you
Good in the eye's view, however it turns.
٦. تامَت فُؤادَكَ إِذ لَهُ عَرَضَت
حَسَنٌ بِرَأيِ العَينِ ما تَمِقُ
7. It became clear and a crack in the heart because of it
The crack of the glass jar does not match.
٧. بانَت وَصَدعٌ في الفُؤادِ بِها
صَدعُ الزُجاجَةِ لَيسَ يَتَّفِقُ
8. It is as if the gazelles of meadows when
The day shone and the eyelids shone.
٨. وَكَأَنَّ غِزلانَ الصَرائِمِ إِذ
مَتَعَ النَهارُ وَأَرشَقَ الحَدَقُ
9. And fog that flows as if it is cold
Its water dripped from the cloud and flows.
٩. وَمَهاً يَرِفُّ كَأَنَّهُ بَرَدٌ
نَزَلَ السَحابَةِ ماؤُهُ يَدِقُ
10. A she-camel, excellent lineage, socialized
A man with a blaze hurries with it.
١٠. عانِيَّةٌ صِرفٌ مُعَتَّقَةٌ
يَسعى بِها ذو تومَةٍ لَبِقُ
11. O son of those who their glory humbled
The pomp of kings and markets bowed.
١١. يا اِبنَ الَّذي دانَت لِعِزِّهِمُ
بَذَخُ المُلوكِ وَدانَتِ السُوَقُ
12. A sea of ink, humpbacked
The Caliph's plain, nothing locks it.
١٢. بَحرٌ مِنَ المَدّادِ ذو حَدَبٍ
سَهلُ الخَليفَةِ ما بِهِ غَلَقُ
13. The proudest fails short of its goal
When the forerunners compete and outdo.
١٣. وَأَغَرُّ تُقصِرُ دونَ غايَتِهِ
غُرُّ السَوابِقِ حينَ تَستَبِقُ
14. Before the man whose merits are hoped for
His sale has gotten me what I want from him.
١٤. قَبلَ اِمرِئِ تُرجى فَواضِلُهُ
قَد نالَني مِن باعِهِ طَلَقُ
15. His sale has gotten me from him in need
Like the palm trees, their smallest ones plucked.
١٥. قَد نالَني مِنهُ عَلى عَوَزٍ
مِثلُ النَخيلِ صِغارُها السُحُقُ
16. The bunches' mastery over their palms
Wearing the fibers speaking fluently.
١٦. غُلُبُ العُذوقِ عَلى كَوافِرِهِ
مُتَلَفِّعٌ بِالليفِ مُنتَطِقُ
17. And when its dangling bunches joined it
A common walnut and a soft pistachio.
١٧. وَلَها إِذا لَحِقَت ثَمائِلُها
جَوزٌ أَعَمُّ وَمَشفَرٌ خَفِقُ
18. One who has no stinginess when you ask him
Nor finickiness in his elite.
١٨. مَن لَيسَ فيهِ حينَ تَسأَلُهُ
بَخَلٌ وَلا في صَفوِهِ رَنَقُ
19. And you are braver than Usamah when
The loins are girded under them the throat.
١٩. وَلَأَنتَ أَشجَعُ مِن أُسامَةَ إِذ
شُدَّ المَناطِقُ تَحتَها الحَلَقُ
20. And they approached unkempt, their arrivals
Branded, and between them there is hatred.
٢٠. وَتَنازَلوا شُعثاً مَقادِمُهُم
مُتَوَسِّمينَ وَبَينَهُم حَنَقُ
21. They carried the swords on their shoulders
And on the palms, and between them chains.
٢١. حَمَلوا السُيوفَ عَلى عَواتِقِهِم
وَعَلى الأَكُفِّ وَبَينَهُم عَلَقُ
22. You visit their land with someone shaggy
Headed for the evening, his darkness dyeing.
٢٢. وَتَزورُ أَرضَهُمُ بِذي لَجَبٍ
قَصدَ العَشِيِّ غُبوقُهُ المَرَقُ
23. Like the roaring of bulls between them
A blow you squint your eyes from beneath it.
٢٣. كَغَماغِمِ الثيرانِ بَينَهُمُ
ضَربٌ تُغَمَّضُ دونَهُ الحَدَقُ
