1. O house of Hind, whose traces have vanished
Except for its winding valleys and ravines

2. A friend once looked after it but could not preserve it
And a lovely woman once dwelled in its isolation

3. Time has changed its acquaintances after me
And the winds have scattered its melodies

4. Destruction has overwritten it with its trails
So it became like crushed ice in its barrenness

5. It was as if a twig of boxthorn reproached me
When I asked about it but it did not heed my chant

6. Until when it disappeared from me I sat upon
A cliff perishing in a land enduring its misery

7. I hurl it away from me although it withers
On a night when its resident knows no sleep

8. When it climbs a barren land toward a town
I task it with erecting the poles of flags reaching its summit

9. To you, O son of Shammas, I complained of it
As we traversed the expanse when its aspects appeared

10. Until I steered my camel in your lands
With the best of those who don unshod and shod feet

11. By the life of Him who flows to His Sacred House
Great throngs of pilgrims arriving at its appointment

12. He came to my aid and brought me close
A youth who donned his mantle though bare

13. May God reward him well, a trusted brother
And guide him with virtuous guidance, his leader

14. Who joins thousands to thousands in alliance
And gives hundreds in plenty, their shepherd

15. A people who grew in the line of Sa’d at its peak
When the efforts of Sa’d are recounted

16. May God protect them, a people of lineage
When crisis befalls people, present and absent

17. The trusted allies of the Prophet’s neighbor whatever they knot
Among them the foremost to heed the call and its summoner

18. And those who ignite the flames of war when ignited
On a day when the prayer caller is driven away from it

19. They walk in the armor of David as though they are
Stallions whose hides are smeared with tar

20. They wage the heat of fray in every battlefield
With horses altogether, blond and dark-coated

21. Beneath their framed forelocks walks disheveled hair
Tied on high beneath the headbands
