1. In ransom for Ibn Badr the day his horsemen charged,
Though clans of mine, Tarif's and Tālid's, wavered.
١. فِدىً لِاِبنِ بَدرٍ يَومَ أَقدَمَ خَيلَهُ
وَقَد خامَ أَقوامٌ طَريفي وَتالِدي
2. Right's due he claimed; souls of Quraysh would not be spared
When furious heroes, long of arm, pressed forward.
٢. أَبى حَقَّ ما مَنَّت قُرَيشٌ نُفوسَها
فَوارِسُ أَبطالٌ طِوالُ السَواعِدِ
3. The steeds of Ibn Khasha'a knew that on the day
Of flashing swords they must engage, must slash and slay.
٣. وَقَد عَلِمَت خَيلُ اِبنِ خَشعَةَ أَنَّها
مَتى تَلقَ يَوماً ذا جِلادٍ تُجالِدِ
4. The steeds of Ibn Khasha'a knew that on the day
Of gloom and trial they must not disobey.
٤. وَقَد عَلِمَت خَيلُ اِبنِ خَشعَةَ أَنَّها
مَتى تَلقَ يَوماً غَمرَةً لا تُعانِدِ
