1. My lord, troubles have afflicted me and brought me pain
A test whose course exceeded my endurance

2. Yet I do not complain of what I cannot bear
Or grow angry at fate, or remain uncontent

3. I accept what is ordained and believe
That your decree is just, whatever the judge may be

4. But a slave's utmost is a complaint he voices
And tears that start to flow for the remainder of life

5. And his heart torn in the darkness of night
Crying for aid, crying "help me, I'm perishing!"

6. So gently hide your kindness toward me in my attributes
And the states of my being, condition and needs

7. For your kindness to me in the world of particles is witness
To your kindness in the states of my existence and my affair

8. And your kindness to one in distress inspired deliverance
Quicker to perceive, hidden and obvious

9. And your kindness to the distressed because of his distress
If it were to examine, would suffice as your kindness

10. And the flow of kindness is only for wisdom
However requiring its motivating, it flows

11. So if my affliction from You is out of love
Joy and glad tidings to me, I'm content with my station

12. Though in my weakness I'm witness I cannot bear
The slightest atom of test, and my incapacity

13. But if it is tribulation, I take refuge
In your countenance, lest I suffer, my God

14. I seek refuge in what the messengers took refuge
From you in your tribulation, that you not return my test

15. I seek refuge in the essence of praise, Fatiha of the Book
And the five Names, hasten my deliverance

16. And prepare for us from our affair, guidance with them
And save us from tremendous distress, our lives

17. And purify my heart through them and place within wisdom
And light and beneficial knowledge from you, a guide

18. And facilitate livelihood through them from all quarters
And leave no hardship in life that wears out

19. And with them drive back enemies from me though I'm no hero
To drive back foes

20. And unleash upon them wrath from you leaving
Through the ages in the wilderness none remaining

21. And hasten upon them from you a stern avenging
That rips apart their livers and veins bursting

22. And do not abandon the oppressed among them humbled
Hands outstretched to you in complaint

23. Those are their efforts against truth, anguish
So O Breaker, break those who strove and strove

24. And do not make me despair of affairs I've known
Though my tongue stays silent, mentioning none

25. I'm hopeful after making my means to you
Your Supreme Name, the fulfillment of my hope

26. And bestow blessings and peace as you will
Upon Muhammad sent as guide for creation

27. A prayer I gain good through its blessing
Opening gates of heaven to my supplication

28. And purification of People of the House, and make
Felicity the seal for me and best outcome of my quest
