1. My Lord, you have revealed yourself through divine generosity
In thanking me, though I am the one indebted to you

2. What is this kindness of mine for which you thank me?
What is the extent of my power and ability?

3. What is this kindness of mine and what power do I have
To move anything or rest it through any action?

4. If you will good for me, you create my capability
And facilitate, my Master, my choice and enable me

5. And make easy whatever you approve of me, predestined
According to the order of fate and decree

6. Yet you reward me for the agreeable deed
And expand me in gratitude, though it is not my doing

7. It is honor enough for a servant that you thank his effort
Even if he does not attain eternal bounty

8. And the effort is not of itself and its requirement
Rather, it is a generosity without causality

9. My God, the thankfulness of gratitude is not in exchange
For something that entitles me to win divine thanks

10. Rather, a servant's thanking God leads him
To thank his Master at every blessing

11. So grant me, through the secret of thankfulness, more gratitude
By which my religious and worldly good increase
