1. God is Greatest, a calamity that lowered flags
And established sorrow in our homes

2. The earth shook, its heights and depths
Even the heavens and the mighty throne

3. In East and West, it quaked and trembled
Nearly overturning this entire universe

4. Great calamities, when they occur, shake the cosmos
Yes, and ignite blazing fires in bodies

5. A fate the time brought forth to strike
Blocking its prevention with an overwhelming blow

6. It timed the hour of that destined place
Places have times, as is known

7. O vicious time, did you remain to remain
And sustain for us the comfort of sorrows?

8. What tongue can eulogize him?
What heart is worthy when misfortune overwhelms?

9. I see life, but no life is sweet in it
Abundantly, and the guide to death increased our sorrows

10. I see darkness, shrouding, veiling its features
Bewildered travelers cannot tread it

11. Truly, the full moon of the earth is buried in dust
Until the darkness of night prevails in darkness

12. So who can determine his status
After his setting, for he who vanished has no light

13. Rather, like the sun running its course
To its destined resting place where its glow concealed

14. These are the stages of one who turned, with sorrow
I mean the Imam, the peerless scholar

15. I mean, the Khalili, Imam of Muslims, the one
Who guided the cosmos with his radiance when it was bleak

16. Muhammad son of Abdullah son of Saeed
The righteous, son of honorable scholars

17. Who in the changing days of fate unsheathed his sword
Never wavering until he cut and took a stand

18. Say to the one whose good news brought this sorrow
Which shook nations, that you have shot an arrow of ill fate

19. You have slain the soul of the life of knowledge
And knowledge has a soul that motivates ambitions

20. This is the calamity that struck people, leaving
A profound crack not easily mended

21. It shook Saad with its intensity, and the
Throne of God, with the best of eras, if it came early

22. They are alike in calamity and glory
And in weighing their deeds, between them

23. Saad, in his good life and blessed dwelling
And protected refuge, congratulations and bounty!

24. And this one emulated him in his way
In knowledge, forbearance and justice, if he ruled

25. Thus knowledge elevates one's status
To lofty station at the peaks of creation

26. But with seriousness, sincerity in work
Resolve, insight, and dispelling blindness

27. And so his virtue followed the first
They are equal in high ranks, both magnified

28. This is your status in your life, its zenith
Beginning and ending, with no decrease in your worth

29. O Father Khalil, you left the earth forlorn
I see no smile on its face

30. You left your blossoming state now withering
After its vigor, when its rain was cut off

31. Return, my ransom, to issue edicts, for it
Had a treasure of knowledge, wisdom and discernment

32. Shall we bury the treasure and hopes
Hoping for its benefits, how much it enriched and taught!

33. Return, my ransom, to the true faith—it wept
With the eyes of orphans when the womb was emptied

34. You were its guarantor, protecting it
Guarding its sanctity, strong, steadfast

35. My ransom, continue this worthy cause
Do not sheathe the sword while injustice remains

36. I know the impossibility, for by God, none returns
From the world of loss when death's arrow has struck

37. But I recall the days you lived
And glean its pearls, treasured in some words

38. I yearn for you, Imam of knowledge, when
Death took you away, steps never faltering

39. It's as if fire blazed in our hearts
And nights' calamities bring sorrows

40. Crying for you today is best for one departed
We cry for virtue, character and dignity

41. We cry for generosity that spread then closed
The hand withheld from spreading aid and blessings

42. We cry for wisdom when its doors are shut
You opened the obscure, illuminating the confused

43. We cry for knowledge, when its knower departed
We cry for your loyalty, O most faithful of people!

44. We cry for your blossoming gatherings, now empty,
Complaining of abandonment—where are the crowds?

45. We cry for your sublime traits, eternal
On the page of time, influential, raised up as flags

46. We cry for perfection, and your perfected soul
We cry for your life—how much it smiled!

47. We cry for the canal—how it complains when
The mornings of yesterday pass—I see your white hair and old age

48. Oh woe, woe! Of what use is crying? What
Can screaming do for one now turned to dust?

49. Pillar of eras, beauty of the place, light of time
Brother of faith, shining moon

50. You accompanied the Prophet's companions, guidance
Greeted them hand-in-hand though they passed

51. You never looked upon the world and its blossoms
When the light exposes the darkness of night

52. You saw its fleetingness when it was exposed
That permanence is but a mirage that reaps no fruit

53. You wore nothing but God consciousness, cautiously
Fearing God, the Knowing, from this learned world

54. You stood by Quranic law, judging and striking
The hand against the oppressor and fair to the oppressed

55. How many highway robbers did you stop with the sword? How
Many tyrants did you defeat with resolve?

56. Fear of you came before conflict—for when
Conflict appeared, the hero took flight and broke

57. Divine success in openings not made
By your fingers—tribulations became easy

58. Your zeal for God, your conduct
Your help for God, when you stood firm

59. How much did your heart bear burdens—if
The hearts of all humanity gathered, their ambitions would falter

60. How often do people return pleased after connection
Whether you shared knowledge or spread your blessed hand

61. You dictate and write while obstacles continue
And speak concisely, miraculously, without aiming

62. How perplexed were the thinkers about your brief lines
Of eloquence—throwing the pen down in awe

63. God granted you this knowledge and high station
Reaching it by divine gift and inspiration, where it reached

64. You came to us, O Imam of the faith, in an age
Where you were unique in your merit, exalted

65. Where is your equivalent in the virtues you established?
The right way and sincerity, steadfast

66. You spent your life in asceticism and piety
Until certainty came to you and you submitted

67. For it an invitation came that the messenger brought
To the seat of truth and contentment, seizing it

68. You presented righteous deeds, pure
For the sake of your Lord, thanking Him for His blessing

69. And the righteous have a reward for their deeds
That recompense—so blessed is he who is shown mercy!

70. The gift of inspiration and lamentation poems is from me
Yet in this place are words that will always fall short

71. O people of the Muslim nation, my condolences
To you, while my heart burns with sorrow

72. Tears flow from my eyes pouring down
You would think them clouds pouring rain

73. Good tidings—his happiness in his final days came
His face bright, smiling

74. My Master, if you remain
Caliph of God atop the highest summit

75. My Master, the crowds gathered from all regions
Crowded together for the burial rites

76. My Master, the sun was veiled in its shrouds
By the clouds at the moment of burial

77. My Master, the fragrance of musk emanated
From the grave in which he was buried, and radiant light

78. My Master, all of creation pleased with you
As you were devoted and steadfast
