1. You have encompassed my affairs, O Ocean, and not
The coils of my enemies that led to my ruin.

2. My troubles have encompassed me, O Ocean. They are
My skin, though I detest my wretched state.

3. My condition does not, O Ocean, add
An atom's weight to God's all-encompassing knowledge.

4. But my prayer, O Ocean, is an intercession
I was commanded to make when afflicted.

5. I have no power, O Ocean. I have disclaimed
My power before You, my might and my strength.

6. My power is my weakness, O Ocean, my humiliation,
My poverty, and my pouring forth tears after tears.

7. My distress, O Ocean, my gloom and my dejection
Over my burning coals and trembling hunted beast.

8. My life, O Ocean, has encompassed me with woes
In religion and world, and the ill-omen of my stumblings.

9. I have an evil soul, O Ocean, ignorant,
Bringing calamities upon me, unpure.

10. Ridden by evil, O Ocean, led
To its ruin by its ignorance of the moment's gravity.

11. Save me from the evil of ignorance, O Ocean, purify me
With the lights of the wisdoms of the clear vast Ocean.
