1. She rose, and the onlookers said in awe of her beauty:

١. طَلَعَت فَقالَ الناظِرونَ إِلى
تَصويرِها ما أَعظَمَ اللَهَ
2. She drew near, and when she bade farewell, grew shy,
Hiding her cheek behind an apple.
٢. وَدَنَت فَلَمّا سَلَّمَت خَجِلَت
وَالتَفَّ بِالتُفّاحِ خَدّاها
3. Her lower half seemed a sandy hill,
Her upper half a slender bough.
٣. وَكَأَنَّ دِعصَ الرَملِ أَسفَلُها
وَكَأَنَّ غُصنَ البانِ أَعلاها
4. When she was full-grown and her breasts swelled,
Her eyes read the text of Baha.
٤. حَتّى إِذا ثَمِلَت بِنَشوَتِها
قَرَأَت كِتابَ الباهِ عَيناها
