This carnelian, so count, O hand of Isa,

هذا العقيق فعد أي

1. This carnelian, so count, O hand of Isa,
Away from its passionate ardors,

١. هذا العَقيقُ فَعَدِّ أَي
دي العيسِ عَن غُلَوائِها

2. And deny its soft whispers success
When it whispers its success.

٢. وَاِمنَع نَواجِيَها النَجا
ءَ فَلاتَ حينَ نَجائِها

3. And when you pass by the well of Urwa
Quench me with its water,

٣. وَإِذا مَرَرتَ بِبِئرِ عُر
وَةَ فَاِسقِني مِن مائِها

4. And take to the Samr trees or
To the foothills among its thickets,

٤. وَاِجنَح إِلى السَمُراتِ أَو
لِلسَّفحِ مِن جَمّائِها

5. We and your livelihood, we did not blame
Living in its plains,

٥. إِنّا وَعَيشِكَ ما ذَمَم
نا العَيشَ في أَفنائِها

6. Days when desires did not pass
Between the staff and its belongings.

٦. أَيّامَ لَم تَجرِ النَوى
بَينَ العَصا وَلِحائِها

7. It watered those covenants, while we
Were in its expanses,

٧. سَقياً لِتِلكَ مَعاهِداً
إِذ نَحنُ في أَرجائِها

8. It did not make its lion cubs comfortable,
Or whiten its gazelles with its wolves.

٨. ما كانَ آنَسَها وَأَش
عَفَ أُسدَها بِظِبائِها

9. And an eloquent poem whose elegance
Time ruins before its demise,

٩. وَقَصيدَةٍ غَرّاءَ يَف
نى الدَهرُ قَبلَ فَنائِها

10. It remains for days a monument
Of its mornings and evenings.

١٠. تَبقى عَلى الأَيّامِ نُص
بَ صَباحِها وَمَسائِها

11. It did not beg the hands of men
With its praise and satire,

١١. لَم تَستَمِح أَيدي الرِجا
لِ بِمَدحِها وَهِجائِها

12. It remained protected, so when
You are guided to its peers,

١٢. باتَت تُصانُ فَآنَ أَن
تُهدى إِلى أَكفائِها

13. Until when I completed the desire of opinion
In maintaining it,

١٣. حَتّى إِذا أَكمَلتُ رَغ
بَ الرَأيِ في إِبقائِها

14. The Caliph Ja'far ibn Muhammad was distinguished
With its praise,

١٤. خُصَّ الخَليفَةُ جَعفَرُ ب
نُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِثَنائِها

15. A king the kings prepared
For fear of him and hope in him

١٥. مَلِكٌ أَعَدَّتهُ المُلو
كُ لِخَوفِها وَرَجائِها

16. He has not stopped since assuming the caliphate
And wearing its gown,

١٦. ما زالَ مُذ وَلِيَ الخِلا
فَةَ وَاِرتَدى بِرِدائِها

17. Relying in it on Him who distinguished him
With His brilliance,

١٧. مُتَوَكِّلاً فيها عَلى
مَن خَصَّهُ بِسَنائِها

18. The nation of Ahmad draws him near
For vengeance from its enemies,

١٨. تُدنيهِ أُمَّةُ أَحمَدٍ
لِلثَأرِ مِن أَعدائِها

19. After the centuries of polytheism stabbed
Its entrails,

١٩. مِن بَعدِ ما طَعَنَت قُرو
نُ الشِركِ في أَحشائِها

20. And the deviants controlled
Its money and blood,

٢٠. وَتَحَكَّمَ الزِيّاتُ في
أَموالِه وَدِمائِها

21. Aiding the traditions of the Prophet, active
In extinguishing them,

٢١. زارٍ عَلى سُنَنِ النَبِ
يِّ يَجُدُّ في إِطفائِها

22. And the one-eyed Anti-Christ from its princes
Implementing matters defiantly against Allah in implementing them

٢٢. وَالرُخَّجِيُّ الأَعوَرُ ال
دجّالُ مِن أُمَرائِها

23. Inciting to slander chaste women, yet he is not of its sons,
There were dark tribulations and people bewildered in its blindness,

٢٣. يُمضى الأُمورَ مُعانِداً
لِلَّهِ في إِمضائِها

24. Confused as cattle after their grazing,
While this was so, the truth shone in its darkness,

٢٤. يُغري بِقَذفِ المُحصَنا
تِ وَلَيسَ مِن أَبنائِها

25. And your Lord chose Ja'far ibn Muhammad for its glory.

٢٥. كانَت غَياهِبُ فِتنَةٍ
وَالناسُ في عَميائِها

٢٦. مُتَحَيِّرينَ كَما تَحا
رُ البَهمُ بَعدَ رِعائِها

٢٧. بَينا كَذلِكَ إِذ أَضا
ءَ الحَقُّ في ظَلمائِها

٢٨. وَاِختارَ رَبُّكَ جَعفَرُ ب
نَ مُحَمَّدٍ لِجَلائِها
