1. The struggle for livelihood parts
Loved ones and homeland asunder,
١. طَلَبُ المَعاشِ مُفَرِقٌ
بَينَ الأَحِبَّةِ وَالوَطَنْ
2. And makes the brave as weak
As the feeble and meek.
٢. وَمُصَيِّرٌ جَلَدَ الجَلي
دِ إِلى الضَراعَةِ الوَهَنْ
3. He is led like a docile camel,
Between the pegs and ropes.
٣. حَتّى يُقادَ كَما يُقا
دُ النِضوُ في ثِنيِ الرَسَنْ
4. Then death comes after that,
As though he never was.
٤. ثُمَّ المَنِيَّةُ بَعدَ ذا
فَكَأَنَّهُ ما لَم يَكُنْ
