1. O you who sacrificed yourself for my soul, and for whom
I was made a protection from what is feared, and I feared him,

2. Convey to our brother, may God prolong his bounty,
That I, though I do not meet with him, meet with him,

3. And though my gaze is connected with seeing him
And his abode is far from my abode,

4. No blessing was bestowed upon me or happened
Except through him Allah granted me its delight,

5. And no beautiful affliction brought me goodness
Except through it I attained its beginning and its end,

6. Allah knows I do not remember him
And how can he be remembered by one who does not forget him,

7. Count them - did the good he did not contain goodness?
And has any youth's generosity matched his generosity?

8. The sea diminishes but his virtues do not diminish,
And drops are counted but his gifts are uncountable,

9. May Allah show me what my heart busies itself with,
And protect it, take care of it, and keep it alive,

10. There is nothing of what we see but that it resembles Him,
And what likenesses do you have, O family of Abraham?

11. I have a beloved whom I love,
He is as he was,

12. I have two deaths in my soul,
My love for him and my hatred for his father,

13. It is not for his father’s sake
But for his brother’s sake,

14. I desire both their deaths
As I desire a kiss from him.
