1. The ribs are aflame
And the tears stream

2. O weary one, awake
From the toil you find

3. For a purpose tears have flowed
With an extent they possess

4. Every extravagant, grieving
Or weeping will be thriftier

5. And time's ways
In prosperity and adversity strive

6. Say to two bereaved who walked
In their strength lies destruction

7. No parent or child before you
Was spared

8. Those who were made to incline
In their travels they wandered

9. We know not if they suffered
In parting or were joyous

10. For they came to an abode
From which none returns

11. All of us tomorrow thither
Not far is the morrow

12. Sons are our blood
And life and roses

13. No brain or liver begets their like
One the same as multitude

14. Adornment and purpose
And comfort and affection

15. Temptation if righteous
Affliction if corrupt

16. Preoccupying when ill
Harrowing when lost

17. Their wound if torn away
Cannot be bandaged

18. No consolation for it
Neither remedy nor endurance

19. Say to a structure words
Behind which lies guidance

20. No falsehood or defect reared it
I wonder at a pen

21. Bereaved yet it flows
You are lion of battle

22. It a cutting blade
And swords' edges

23. In the mire are aflame
You are a critic, knowledgeable

24. And the knowledgeable criticize
What say you of a decree

25. Some of whose extent is endless
And in life at

26. Every step lying in wait
Stumbling people over it

27. If they strode or sat
Men succumb to

28. Its rule though they disbelieve
Destiny is a knot

29. None has untied
Whenever you undo it

30. A knot appears
It has wearied unravelers

31. And the believer rests
A world whose Arranger

32. In perpetuity is Peerless
From the decay of its creatures

33. Its new creatures arise
Say not about it transience

34. For its beauty is ceaselessness
Its opposites converge

35. To an endpoint and unite
Annihilation in it is a means

36. To endurance or support
Its harmony is rectitude

37. And its differences, probity
Earnest in its construction

38. Are oppressor and oppressed
And for its service

39. Poor and rich cramp
And in its ordeals

40. It is intent and unremitting
And life is an inkpot

41. In whose letters lies immortality
The edifice of woe for it

42. Is of tears the pillars
The biers arose on

43. Its flanks and the deathbed
Its wedding and bereavement

44. The two goals it sought
