1. Between blaming you and my deep love
I have a stance of tears between excuse and abandonment

2. If I listened to my heart, my affliction increased
And if I listened to other than my heart, I was not sincere

3. And love with blame is like worldly life for its owner
It had no comfort or boredom in it

4. And I bid you farewell while my heart flutters in my hands
And separation takes those around me and my means

5. And I never imagined before we parted
That my heart would blow like a caravan of camels

6. When the determination weakened and tired me out
Between interceding for the loved ones and asking

7. Who taught the wood pigeons cooing and our mercy
So I gestured with submitting, submissive necks

8. They returned my sickness which has no movement
Perhaps in despair there is a cure unlike hope

9. If you could see me standing in your dwellings
You would see a shadow crying over a shadow

10. I suffered like her suffering and my illness relapsed
Both garments among you are the most beautiful attire

11. If I was a loincloth I’d give on resurrection day
I would offer it over my life without devaluing it

12. Or if I were Joshua making the sun obey my hands
I would have sought from you after the separation a respite

13. Or if I were Jesus restoring the dead to life
I would have restored for this sickness a body that died of disease

14. Or if I were Moses with whom the sea paved roads
I would have carried you in kind, easy paths

15. My Master your feast is the feast of all people
You who gather all races and beliefs

16. And however the masses crowd around
Is like a house crowded around its Lord celebration

17. You are like the sun whose horizon has no preference
You are like the moon who pawned itself to no lodging

18. Kings sit squarely on their throne
While you sit listening in conscience and mind

19. You have entered every soul in its privacy
And risen above mankind and the supreme assembly of angels

20. The dew and proverbs revolve around you
Even if the predecessors surpassed, it would not increase your likeness

21. If they were to surpass you in merit or honor
Success in time, not merit, belongs to the early ones

22. And were it not for your protecting kingship
From the questioning of a king or commoner

23. I have seen people exposed to status
And others exposed to wealth, so they did not revere morals in a man

24. They are in exchange for any status or wealth a substitute
And if they make mistakes, they have no substitute

25. Tell the dawning places of the dead not returning
For in death is the cure for ignorance and laziness

26. They did not ascend except as the death bound prisoner feels safe
To the appointed time as if pardoned from death

27. When nations collapse they hoard
Wealth from righteous acts or knowledge from deeds

28. And every sincere advisor to its ignorant slept
Even if he wanted to guide, he faltered and did not speak

29. I suffered poetry among people I take refuge in
Lest enemies say ‘He is the poet of oblivion’

30. I lost sublime zeal in my time
Like the sun ray wasted in mud

While you are all the swords of the age and governance

32. When I saw you, the crown of the generation preserved
I gifted you polished eulogy and lyrical verse from my praise

33. And good tidings for what you tell me
Of the emergence of the throne of the Nile imminent

34. And I will heap more praise upon my Emir atop his praise
And what more can I hope to add or endure

35. I am but a traveler in the brightness of a moon
Telling the full moon at its peak to reach its fullest
