1. The minister's grave, greetings and peace
Wisdom and kindness in you resided

2. And good morals in you have vanished
For a year, though years will make them vanish

3. You were a monastery, now a church
In whose shade the wandering prayed and fasted

4. And the people around you, oh precious son
Praying a duty and obligation sincerely

5. They glance towards his bier
Like the land seeking clouds in the sky

6. They weep for their refuge and source of hope
And the courageous, preferred protector

7. Competing to your burial place as though
They called you in life’s prime, crowding

8. They wished the morn you were carried before their eyes
It were judgement day and the awakening

9. What have you gained of glory and prestige
And taken of the bounties of life, bodily

10. Today, a miserable one’s agony consoles you
And a widow’s solace and orphans’ sorrow

11. And the view for history regarding you, so tomorrow
It will weigh men and speak judgements

12. Judging for or against them in the wild
Or lasting praise or supporting blame

13. You are wise, so do not fret over death
You knew in life, your heritage everlasting

14. Indeed, He who created life and its opposite
Made permanence for His sake, honoring

15. You lived creating affinity amongst Christians
And harmony amongst Muslims, reconciling

16. And today, above your erected grave, deceased
The eloquent found scope for words

17. The truth is evident like dawn to a seer
If only a people judged dreams

18. You entrusted us, Copts being but a nation
To the land, one, seeking purpose

19. We revere Jesus’ teachings for their sake
And they revere Islam for ours

20. Religion is for the Judge, Majestic is His Majesty
If your Lord willed, He would unite peoples

21. Oh people, righteousness is clear, so reflect on what transpired
And take the truth, forsaking delusions
