1. Abu Al-Husain sailed on the ship
He knew the fat and the fatness
١. أَبو الحُصَينِ جالَ في السَفينَه
فَعَرَفَ السَمينَ وَالسَمينَه
2. He says that his state has changed
And what was old has passed
٢. يَقولُ إِنَّ حالَهُ اِستَحالا
وَإِنَّ ما كانَ قَديماً زالا
3. Because of the calamities that have befallen
From the wrath of God upon the foxes
٣. لِكَونِ ما حَلَّ مِنَ المَصائِبِ
مِن غَضَبِ اللَهِ عَلى الثَعالِبِ
4. And he swears strong oaths to the roosters
For what may remain of doubts
٤. وَيُغلِظُ الأَيمانَ لِلدُيوكِ
لِما عَسى يَبقى مِنَ الشُكوكِ
5. That if they descended on earth
They would see everything that pleases
٥. بِأَنَّهُم إِن نَزَلوا في الأَرضِ
يَرَونَ مِنهُ كُلَّ شَيءٍ يُرضي
6. It was said that when they left the ship
He walked with the fat and the fatness
٦. قيلَ فَلَمّا تَرَكوا السَفينَه
مَشى مَعَ السَمينِ وَالسَمينَه
7. Until when they were halfway
None of his companions remained around him
٧. حَتّى إِذا ما نَصَفوا الطَريقا
لَم يُبقِ مِنهُم حَولَهُ رَفيقا
8. And he said, while the bankrupt of religion said
No wonder I broke my oath
٨. وَقالَ إِذ قالوا عَديمُ الدينِ
لا عَجَبٌ إِن حَنَثَت يَميني
9. For we are the sons of foolishness
We work in hardship for prosperity
٩. فَإِنَّما نَحنُ بَني الدَهاءِ
نَعمَلُ في الشِدَّةِ لِلرَخاءِ
10. And whoever you fear will sell his religion
Your company on the ship suffices you
١٠. وَمَن تَخافُ أَن يَبيعَ دينَه
تَكفيكَ مِنهُ صُحبَةُ السَفينَه
