٢٤. الرافِعونَ إِلى الضُحى آباءَهُم
فَالشَمسُ أَصلُهُمُ الوَضيءُ المُعرِقُ

25. So their veil below the soil out of awe
Is like their veil above the soil, intact,

٢٥. وَكَأَنَّما بَينَ البِلى وَقُبورِهِم
عَهدٌ عَلى أَن لا مِساسَ وَمَوثِقُ

26. They attained the truth of a life whose curtains
Are dense and whose secret is locked,

٢٦. فَحِجابُهُم تَحتَ الثَرى مِن هَيبَةٍ
كَحِجابِهِم فَوقَ الثَرى لا يُخرَقُ

27. And they saw the meaning of existence so they did not see
Apart from eternity, happiness achieved,

٢٧. بَلَغوا الحَقيقَةَ مِن حَياةٍ عِلمُها
حُجُبٌ مُكَثَّفَةٌ وَسِرٌّ مُغلَقُ

28. They build for the world as is built for them
By separation's ravens in it cawing,

٢٨. وَتَبَيَّنوا مَعنى الوُجودِ فَلَم يَرَوا
دونَ الخُلودِ سَعادَةً تَتَحَقَّقُ

29. So their palaces are huts and nomads' homes
While their graves are lofty towering edifices,

٢٩. يَبنونَ لِلدُنيا كَما تَبني لَهُم
خِرَباً غُرابُ البَينِ فيها يَنعَقُ

As pillars, so it became an unassailable wall,

٣٠. فَقُصورُهُم كوخٌ وَبَيتُ بَداوَةٍ
وَقُبورُهُم صَرحٌ أَشَمُّ وَجَوسَقُ

٣١. رَفَعوا لَها مِن جَندَلٍ وَصَفائِحٍ
عَمَداً فَكانَت حائِطاً لا يُنتَقُ

٣٢. تَتَشايَعُ الدارانِ فيهِ فَما بَدا
دُنيا وَما لَم يَبدُ أُخرى تَصدُقُ

Lies between an inn and an inn, an apartment,

٣٣. لِلمَوتِ سِرٌّ تَحتَهُ وَجِدارُهُ
سورٌ عَلى السِرِّ الخَفِيِّ وَخَندَقُ

34. Abundant are their provisions under the soil,
Ample around them in the caves sealed,

٣٤. وَكَأَنَّ مَنزِلَهُم بِأَعماقِ الثَرى
بَينَ المَحَلَّةِ وَالمَحَلَّةِ فُندُقُ

35. And to whom are temples whose builder raised them
High between the floods and the soil, tiered,

٣٥. مَوفورَةٌ تَحتَ الثَرى أَزوادُهُم
رَحبٌ بِهِم بَينَ الكُهوفِ المُطبِقُ

36. Some erected like towers while others
Lie like a prone mountain range, marked,

٣٦. وَلِمَن هَياكِلُ قَد عَلا الباني بِها
بَينَ الثُرَيّا وَالثَرى تَتَنَسَّقُ

37. New as if their first era, and around them
The earth and the horizon age and grow old,

٣٧. مِنها المُشَيَّدُ كَالبُروجِ وَبَعضُها
كَالطَودِ مُضطَجِعٌ أَشَمُّ مُنَطَّقُ

38. The face of the earth is strained by any weight
That tires it, and cramped by all that climbs it,

٣٨. جُدُدٌ كَأَوَّلِ عَهدِها وَحِيالَها
تَتَقادَمُ الأَرضُ الفَضاءُ وَتَعتُقُ

39. High upon the arm of decay, none can discern
What summits it or scales its ascent circling,

٣٩. مِن كُلِّ ثِقلٍ كاهِلُ الدُنيا بِهِ
تَعِبٌ وَوَجهُ الأَرضِ عَنهُ ضَيِّقُ

40. Fixed like a mountain, its root in the soil
And its branch in the inviolable sphere soaring,

٤٠. عالٍ عَلى باعِ البِلى لا يَهتَدي
ما يَعتَلي مِنهُ وَما يَتَسَلَّقُ

41. Built of darkness's essence except that
Its darkness lightens and the dawn breaks from it,

٤١. مُتَمَكِّنٌ كَالطَودِ أَصلاً في الثَرى
وَالفَرعُ في حَرَمِ السَماءِ مُحَلِّقُ

42. No eras with them have burdened kings
With a pride for them remaining and a fragrance lingering,

٤٢. هِيَ مِن بِناءِ الظُلمِ إِلّا أَنَّهُ
يَبيَضُّ وَجهُ الظُلمِ مِنهُ وَيُشرِقُ

43. Your banks have tempted mortals, who cease not
To perform pilgrimage to them or gaze at them,

٤٣. لَم يُرهِقِ الأُمَمَ المُلوكُ بِمِثلِها
فَخراً لَهُم يَبقى وَذِكراً يَعبَقُ

44. And the ages have taken their fill from you as if
In every direction stands aloft sweet incense burning,

٤٤. فُتِنَت بِشَطَّيكَ العِبادُ فَلَم يَزَل
قاصٍ يَحُجُّهُما وَدانٍ يَرمُقُ

45. Upon thrones they met restoring glory
Snatching back disgrace, no longer cringing,

٤٥. وَتَضَوَّعَت مِنكَ الدُهورِ كَأَنَّما
في كُلِّ ناحِيَةٍ بَخورٌ يُحرَقُ

46. They neglected and Sheba's Belqis took from his jewelry
And came to you passionate, her wrap gathered,

٤٦. وَتَقابَلَت فيها عَلى السُرُرِ الدُمى
مُستَردِياتِ الذُلِّ لا تَتَفَتَّقُ

47. She removed for you her modesty and her life—
Is aught dearer than these two things offered?

٤٧. عَطَلَت وَكانَ مَكانُهُنَّ مِنَ العُلى
بَلقيسُ تَقبِسُ مِن حُلاهُ وَتَسرِقُ

48. And when love is fulfilled and the ransom agreed
The soul stands at sacrifice's door most fitting,

٤٨. وَعَلا عَلَيهُنَّ التُرابُ وَلَم يَكُن
يَزكو بِهِنَّ سِوى العَبيرُ وَيَلبَقُ

In it, illumination and darkening,

٤٩. حُجُراتُها مَوطوءَةٌ وَسُتورُها
مَهتوكَةٌ بِيَدِ البِلى تَتَخَرَّقُ

٥٠. أَودى بِزينَتِها الزَمانُ وَحَليِها
وَالحُسنُ باقٍ وَالشَبابُ الرَيِّقُ

٥١. لَو رُدَّ فِرعَونُ الغَداةَ لَراعَهُ
أَنَّ الغَرانيقَ العُلى لا تَنطِقُ

52. Scattered on earth, organizing the soil
And taking from what is in the sky attached,

٥٢. خَلَعَ الزَمانُ عَلى الوَرى أَيّامَهُ
فَإِذا الضُحى لَكَ حِصَّةٌ وَالرَونَقُ

53. From it comes our life and its opposite,
Ever we return to it and from it are created,

٥٣. لَكَ مِن مَواسِمِهِ وَمِن أَعيادِهِ
ما تَحسِرُ الأَبصارُ فيهِ وَتَبرَقُ

54. And crops, their grains are wholesome and their seeds
Emerge from it, this and that split open,

٥٤. لا الفُرسُ أوتوا مِثلَهُ يَوماً وَلا
بَغدادُ في ظِلِّ الرَشيدِ وَجِلَّقُ

55. And it braces the bees' house, so it is laden with honey
And props the ants' house, so it is burrowed,

٥٥. فَتحُ المَمالِكِ أَو قِيامُ العِجلِ أَو
يَومُ القُبورِ أَوِ الزَفافُ المونِقُ

56. And it remains between the forces of life, wonders,
Neither settling permanently nor being eradicated,

٥٦. كَم مَوكِبٍ تَتَخايَلُ الدُنيا بِهِ
يُجلى كَما تُجلى النُجومُ وَيُنسَقُ

57. It is the word of God Almighty and His spirit
In all creatures and His secret concealed,

٥٧. فِرعَونُ فيهِ مِنَ الكَتائِبِ مُقبِلٌ
كَالسُحبِ قَرنُ الشَمسِ مِنها مُفتِقُ

58. In star and moon its manifestation when
They rise on the world and the hour beats,

٥٨. تَعنو لِعِزَّتِهِ الوُجوهُ وَوَجهُهُ
لِلشَمسِ في الآفاقِ عانٍ مُطرِقُ

And elephant of what He shaped and ostriches,

٥٩. آبَت مِنَ السَفَرِ البَعيدِ جُنودُهُ
وَأَتَتهُ بِالفَتحِ السَعيدِ الفَيلَقُ

60. So early minds were tempted and deified
What awes and rends from everything piercing,

٦٠. وَمَشى المُلوكُ مُصَفَّدينَ خُدودُهُم
نَعلٌ لِفِرعَونَ العَظيمِ وَنُمرُقُ

61. They bowed to a creature and thought creator
What cannot in darkness distinguish and differentiate,

٦١. مَملوكَةٌ أَعناقُهُم لِيَمينِهِ
يَأبى فَيَضرِبُ أَو يَمُنُّ فَيُعتِقُ

62. And when they performed pilgrimage to the graves you'd think them
The substitute for the holy, pure of sins,

٦٢. وَنَجيبَةٍ بَينَ الطُفولَةِ وَالصِبا
عَذراءَ تَشرَبُها القُلوبُ وَتَعلَقُ

63. They come to Thebes with offerings ahead of them
Covering cities and villages and layering them,

٦٣. كانَ الزَفافُ إِلَيكَ غايَةَ حَظِّها
وَالحَظُّ إِن بَلَغَ النِهايَةَ موبِقُ

64. So voyagers crammed with pilgrims as if they are
Darts vying or arrows darting,

٦٤. لافَيتَ أَعراساً وَلافَت مَأتَماً
كَالشَيخِ يَنعَمُ بِالفَتاةِ وَتُزهَقُ

65. From a shore where life resides to a shore
That is the resting place of those preceding and a harbor,

٦٥. في كُلِّ عامٍ دُرَّةٌ تُلقى بِلا
ثَمَنٍ إِلَيكَ وَحُرَّةٌ لا تُصدَقُ

66. They passed away with the sunset in it and lay equal
Shah and beggar in the soil and a pallet,

٦٦. حَولٌ تُسائِلُ فيهِ كُلُّ نَجيبَةٍ
سَبَقَت إِلَيكَ مَتى يَحولُ فَتَلحَقُ

67. There the barrows in the open are like
Bits of clouds or a fading mirage,

٦٧. وَالمَجدُ عِندَ الغانِياتِ رَغيبَةٌ
يُبغى كَما يُبغى الجَمالُ وَيُعشَقُ

68. Truth has a turn in it and principles
Like dawn from its edges bursting,

٦٨. إِن زَوَّجوكَ بِهِنَّ فَهيَ عَقيدَةٌ
وَمِنَ العَقائِدِ ما يَلَبُّ وَيَحمُقُ

69. They alighted at it so kings walked honorably
While the servile crawled with wealth flattering,

٦٩. ما أَجمَلَ الإيمانَ لَولا ضَلَّةٌ
في كُلِّ دينٍ بِالهِدايَةِ تُلصَقُ

70. Its courtyards were cramped by them so it seemed
The wilderness returned their deposits scattered,

٧٠. زُفَّت إِلى مَلِكِ المُلوكِ يَحُثُّها
دينٌ وَيَدفَعُها هَوىً وَتَشَوُّقُ

71. And the living and dead sociably conversed in it
As if in fate they never parted,

٧١. وَلَرُبَّما حَسَدَت عَلَيكَ مَكانَها
تِربٌ تَمَسَّحُ بِالعَروسِ وَتُحدِقُ

72. The origin of civility is steady in your plateau
And its growth fine upon you cultivated,

٧٢. مَجلُوَّةٌ في الفُلكِ يَحدو فُلكَها
بِالشاطِئَينِ مُزَغرِدٌ وَمُصَفِّقُ

73. It was born so you were the cradle, then it grew
So the sheltering guardian shadowed it devoted,

٧٣. في مِهرَجانٍ هَزَّتِ الدُنيا بِهِ
أَعطافَها وَاِختالَ فيهِ المَشرِقُ

74. It filled your lands with stored wisdom
Inscribed in stone and scripture precious engraved,

٧٤. فِرعَونُ تَحتَ لِوائِهِ وَبَناتُهُ
يَجري بِهِنَّ عَلى السَفينِ الزَورَقُ

75. And it built magnificent houses of knowledge—
An expatriate and Easterner yearn for them—

٧٥. حَتّى إِذا بَلَغَت مَواكِبُها المَدى
وَجَرى لِغايَتِهِ القَضاءُ الأَسبَقُ

76. And it innovated a creed that became virtues
And moral structures lengthening and transcending,

٧٦. وَكَسا سَماءَ المِهرَجانِ جَلالَةً
سَيفُ المَنِيَّةِ وَهوَ صَلتٌ يَبرُقُ

77. It paved the way for every creed after it
As musk whose scent remains when another opens,

٧٧. وَتَلَفَّتَت في اليَمِّ كُلُّ سَفينَةٍ
وَاِنثالَ بِالوادي الجُموعُ وَحَدَّقوا

78. It calls to dutifulness and exalts the righteous
And pardons what violates dignity and corrupts customs,

٧٨. أَلقَت إِلَيكَ بِنَفسِها وَنَفيسِها
وَأَتَتكَ شَيِّقَةً حَواها شَيِّقُ

While its clerical order possesses deeper truths,

٧٩. خَلَعَت عَلَيكَ حَياءَها وَحَياتَها

And for monotheism's unifier attachments abound,

٨٠. وَإِذا تَناهى الحُبُّ وَاِتَّفَقَ الفِدى
فَالروحُ في بابِ الضَحِيَّةِ أَليَقُ

With dew for it the vegetation grows tall and buds open,

٨١. ما العالَمُ السُفلِيُّ إِلّا طينَةٌ
أَزَلِيَّةٌ فيهِ تُضيءُ وَتَغسِقُ

82. And Joseph's beauty, its banner still
Hovers around you on the horizon's rim glistening,

٨٢. هِيَ فيهِ لِلخِصبِ العَميمِ خَميرَةٌ
يَندى بِما حَمَلَت إِلَيهِ وَيَبثُقُ

83. And his brothers' tears are missives of repentance
Penned on your banks, lined up embellished,

٨٣. ما كانَ فيها لِلزِيادَةِ مَوضِعٌ
وَإِلى حِماها النَقصُ لا يَتَطَرَّقُ

84. And Virgin Mary's prayer above your crop still
Causes, at her mention, plants to thrive and rise high,

٨٤. مُنبَثَّةٌ في الأَرضِ تَنتَظِمُ الثَرى
وَتَنالُ مِمّا في السَماءِ وَتَعلَقُ

85. And Christ's steps upon you a pure spirit
Are your Lord's blessings and bounty abundant,

٨٥. مِنها الحَياةُ لَنا وَمِنها ضِدُّها
أَبَداً نَعودُ لَها وَمِنها نُخلَقُ

86. And the caliph's trusts with you, his religion
And standard and statement and proof,

٨٦. وَالزَرعُ سُنبُلُهُ يَطيبُ وَحَبُّهُ
مِنها فَيَخرُجُ ذا وَهَذا يُفلَقُ

87. He delegated the companions carrying guidance—
What enlivens minds and illuminates—

٨٧. وَتَشُدُّ بَيتَ النَحلِ فَهوَ مُطَنَّبٌ
وَتَمُدُّ بَيتَ النَملِ فَهوَ مُرَوَّقُ

In it, and Badr's stalwarts a downpour,

٨٨. وَتَظَلُّ بَينَ قُوى الحَياةِ جَوائِلاً

And God, round the buildings, facilitates and perfects,

٨٩. هِيَ كِلمَةُ اللَهِ القَديرِ وَروحُهُ

90. Cavalry troops, though their swords
In scabbards from calamities, are perturbed,

٩٠. في النَجمِ وَالقَمَرَينِ مَظهَرُها إِذا
طَلَعَت عَلى الدُنيا وَساعَةَ تَخفُقُ

91. Lands round are folded for them and their army aids,
An army of morals overwhelming glittering,

٩١. وَالذَرُّ وَالصَخَراتُ مِمّا كَوَّرَت
وَالفيلُ مِمّا صَوَّرَت وَالخِرنِقُ

92. In truth sheathed, though their noble sword
From ignorance rends and tears,

٩٢. فَتَنَت عُقولَ الأَوَّلينَ فَأَلَّهوا
مِن كُلِّ شَيءٍ ما يَروعُ وَيَخرُقُ

98. Nile! Sweet are the traits the guidance attributed,
And praise of Torah the most fittingly composed,

٩٨. وَمِنَ العَجائِبِ بَعدَ طولِ عِبادَةٍ
يُؤتى بِهِ حَوضَ الخُلودِ فَيُغرَقُ

99. And to you a people whose protection, in eras' bitterness,
Has wearied them give thanks, an exhausted throng—

٩٩. يا لَيتَ شِعري هَل أَضاعوا العَهدَ أَم
حَذِروا مِنَ الدُنيا عَلَيهِ وَأَشفَقوا

100. A shield like Ma’n’s or Hatem Al-Ta’i’s munificence,
A people who entrust it while others knock upon it,

١٠٠. قَومٌ وَقارُ الدينِ في أَخلاقِهِم
وَالشَعبُ ما يعتادُ أَو يَتَخَلَّقُ

101. And upon you the attributes of glory from modesty's treasures
Gleam—brides whose tents are sprinkled—

١٠١. يَدعونَ خَلفَ السِترِ آلِهَةً لَهُم
مَلَأوا النَدِيَّ جَلالَةً وَتَأَبَّقوا

102. Pearls arranged on their throats
And perfumes on their scrolls lined up,

١٠٢. وَاِستَحجَبوا الكُهّانَ هَذا مُبلِغٌ
ما يَهتِفونَ بِهِ وَذاكَ مُصَدِّقُ

103. For you is praise without affectation
Prompted by a love without fawning,

١٠٣. لا يُسأَلونَ إِذا جَرَت أَلفاظُهُم
مِن أَينَ لِلحَجَرِ اللِسانُ الأَذلَقُ

104. Of what desire for you misguides us fledglings—
We will soar from them while you feed them,

١٠٤. أَو كَيفَ تَختَرِقُ الغُيوبَ بَهيمَةٌ
فيما يَنوبُ مِنَ الأُمورِ وَيَطرُقُ

105. To them in dust our hearts flutter
And throb beneath without a vein pulsating,

١٠٥. وَإِذا هُمو حَجّوا القُبورَ حَسِبتَهُم
وَفدَ العَتيقِ بِهِم تَرامى الأَينُقُ

106. For them from you, God most glorious,
Intercession the greatest and most gracious,

١٠٦. يَأتونَ طيبَةَ بِالهَدِيِّ أَمامَهُم
يَغشى المَدائِنَ وَالقُرى وَيُطَبِّقُ

107. So guard the trusts you were charged safekeeping—
Truest you when most trusted authentic,

١٠٧. فَالبَرُّ مَشدودُ الزَواحِلِ مُحدَجٌ
وَالبَحرُ مَمدودُ الشِراعِ مُوَسَّقُ

108. The land has a day while heaven an ordeal
And the valley's ordeal, the morn it takes flight,

١٠٨. حَتّى إِذا أَلقَوا بِهَيكَلِها العَصا
وَفّوا النُذورَ وَقَرَّبوا وَاِصَّدَّقوا

١٠٩. وَجَرَت زَوارِقُ بِالحَجيجِ كَأَنَّها
رُقطٌ تَدافَعُ أَو سِهامٌ تَمرُقُ

١١٠. مِن شاطِئٍ فيهِ الحَياةُ لِشاطِئٍ
هُوَ مُضجَعٌ لِلسابِقينَ وَمِرفَقُ

١١١. غَرَبوا غُروبَ الشَمسِ فيهِ وَاِستَوى
شاهٌ وَرُخٌّ في التُرابِ وَبَيدَقُ

١١٢. حَيثُ القُبورُ عَلى الفَضاءِ كَأَنَّها
قِطَعُ السَحابِ أَوِ السَرابِ الدَيسَقُ

١١٣. لِلحَقِّ فيهِ جَولَةٌ وَلَهُ سَناً
كَالصُبحِ مِن جَنَباتِها يَتَفَلَّقُ

١١٤. نَزَلوا بِها فَمَشى المُلوكُ كَرامَةً
وَجَثا المُدِلُّ بِمالِهِ وَالمُملَقُ

١١٥. ضاقَت بِهِم عَرَصاتُها فَكَأَنَّما
رَدَّت وَدائِعَها الفَلاةُ الفَيهَقُ

١١٦. وَتَنادَمَ الأَحياءُ وَالمَوتى بِها
فَكَأَنَّهُم في الدَهرِ لَم يَتَفَرَّقوا

١١٧. أَصلُ الحَضارَةِ في صَعيدِكَ ثابِتٌ
وَنَباتُها حَسَنٌ عَلَيكَ مُخَلَّقُ

١١٨. وُلِدَت فَكُنتَ المَهدَ ثُمَّ تَرَعرَعَت
فَأَظَلَّها مِنكَ الحَفِيُّ المُشفِقُ

١١٩. مَلَأَت دِيارَكَ حِكمَةً مَأثورُها
في الصَخرِ وَالبَردي الكَريمِ مُنَبَّقُ

١٢٠. وَبَنَت بُيوتَ العِلمِ باذِخَةَ الذُرى
يَسعى لَهُنَّ مُغَرِّبٌ وَمُشَرِّقُ

١٢١. وَاِستَحدَثَت ديناً فَكانَ فَضائِلاً
وَبِناءِ أَخلاقٍ يَطولُ وَيَشهَقُ

١٢٢. مَهَدَ السَبيلَ لِكُلِّ دينٍ بَعدَهُ
كَالمِسكِ رَيّاهُ بِأُخرى تُفتَقُ

١٢٣. يَدعو إِلى بِرٍّ وَيَرفَعُ صالِحاً
وَيَعافُ ما هُوَ لِلمُروءَةِ مُخلِقُ

١٢٤. لِلناسِ مِن أَسرارِهِ ما عُلِّموا
وَلِشُعبَةِ الكَهَنوتِ ما هُوَ أَعمَقُ

١٢٥. فيهِ مَحَلٌّ لِلأَقانيمِ العُلى
وَلِجامِعِ التَوحيدِ فيهِ تَعَلُّقُ

١٢٦. تابوتُ موسى لا تَزالُ جَلالَةٌ
تَبدو عَلَيكَ لَهُ وَرَيّا تُنشَقُ

١٢٧. وَجَمالُ يوسُفَ لا يَزالُ لِواؤُهُ
حَولَيكَ في أُفُقِ الجَلالِ يُرَنَّقُ

١٢٨. وَدُموعُ إِخوَتِهِ رَسائِلُ تَوبَةٍ
مَسطورُهُنَّ بِشاطِئَيكَ مُنَمَّقُ

١٢٩. وَصَلاةُ مَريَمَ فَوقَ زَرعِكَ لَم يَزَل
يَزكو لِذِكراها النَباتَ وَيَسمُقُ

١٣٠. وَخُطى المَسيحِ عَلَيكَ روحاً طاهِراً
بَرَكاتُ رَبِّكَ وَالنَعيمُ الغَيدَقُ

١٣١. وَوَدائِعُ الفاروقِ عِندَكَ دينَهُ
وَلِواؤُهُ وَبَيانُهُ وَالمَنطِقُ

١٣٢. بَعَثَ الصَحابَةَ يَحمِلونَ مِنَ الهُدى
وَالحَقُّ ما يُحيي العُقولَ وَيَفتُقُ

١٣٣. فَتحُ الفُتوحِ مِنَ المَلائِكِ رَزدَقٌ
فيهِ وَمِن أَصحابِ بَدرٍ رَزدَقُ

١٣٤. يَبنونَ لِلَّهِ الكِنانَةَ بِالقَنا
وَاللَهُ مِن حَولِ البِناءِ مُوَفِّقُ

١٣٥. أَحلاسُ خَيلٍ بَيدَ أَنَّ حُسامَهُم
في السِلمِ مِن حِذرِ الحَوادِثِ مُقلَقُ

١٣٦. تُطوى البِلادُ لَهُم وَيُنجِدُ جَيشُهُم
جَيشٌ مِنَ الأَخلاقِ غازٍ مورِقُ

١٣٧. في الحَقِّ سُلَّ وَفيهِ أُغمِدَ سَيفُهُم
سَيفُ الكَريمِ مِنَ الجَهالَةِ يَفرَقُ

١٣٨. وَالفَتحُ بَغيٌ لا يُهَوِّنُ وَقعَهُ
إِلّا العَفيفُ حُسامُهُ المُتَرَفِّقُ

١٣٩. ما كانَتِ الفُسطاطُ إِلّا حائِطاً
يَأوي الضَعيفُ لِرُكنِهِ وَالمُرهَقُ

١٤٠. وَبِهِ تَلوذُ الطَيرُ في طَلَبِ الكَرى
وَيَبيتُ قَيصَرُ وَهوَ مِنهُ مُؤَرَّقُ

١٤١. عَمرٌو عَلى شَطبِ الحَصيرِ مُعَصَّبٌ
بِقِلادَةِ اللَهِ العَلِيِّ مُطَوَّقُ

١٤٢. يَدعو لَهُ الحاخامُ في صَلَواتِهِ
موسى وَيَسأَلُ فيهِ عيسى البَطرَقُ

١٤٣. يا نيلُ أَنتَ يَطيبُ ما نَعَتَ الهُدى
وَبِمَدحَةِ التَوراةِ أَحرى أَخلَقُ

١٤٤. وَإِلَيكَ يُهدي الحَمدَ خَلقٌ حازَهُم
كَنَفٌ عَلى مَرِّ الدُهورِ مُرَهَّقُ

١٤٥. كَنَفٌ كَمَعنٍ أَو كَساحَةِ حاتِمٍ
خَلقٌ يُوَدِّعُهُ وَخَلقٌ يَطرُقُ

١٤٦. وَعَلَيكَ تُجلى مِن مَصوناتِ النُهى
خودٌ عَرائِسُ خِدرُهُنَّ المُهرَقُ

١٤٧. الدُرُّ في لَبّاتِهِنَّ مُنَظَّمٌ
وَالطيبُ في حَبراتِهِنَّ مُرَقرَقُ

١٤٨. لي فيكَ مَدحٌ لَيسَ فيهِ تَكَلُّفٌ
أَملاهُ حُبٌّ لَيسَ فيهِ تَمَلُّقُ

١٤٩. مِمّا يُحَمِّلُنا الهَوى لَكَ أَفرُخٌ
سَنَطيرُ عَنها وَهيَ عِندَكَ تُرزَقُ

١٥٠. تَهفو إِلَيهِم في التُرابِ قُلوبُنا
وَتَكادُ فيهِ بِغَيرِ عِرقٍ تَخفُقُ

١٥١. تُرجى لَهُم وَاللَهُ جَلَّ جَلالُهُ
مِنّا وَمِنكَ بِهِم أَبَرُّ وَأَرفَقُ

١٥٢. فَاِحفَظ وَدائِعَكَ الَّتي اِستودَعتَها
أَنتَ الوَفِيُّ إِذا اؤتُمِنتَ الأَصدَقُ

١٥٣. لِلأَرضِ يَومٌ وَالسَماءِ قِيامَةٌ
وَقِيامَةُ الوادي غَداةَ تُحَلِّقُ
