1. The story of the dog and the dove
Testifies to the nobility of both species

2. It is said that one day the dog
Was in the garden, drowned in sleep

3. From behind him came the snake
Swollen as if he were Satan

4. And intended to betray the innocent one
The wary dove swooped down for the poor thing

5. And landed suddenly to help the dog
And pecked him with a peck that made him flee

7. When time passed as time does
Then the owner of the garden came

8. The dog rushed to that tree
To warn the bird as he had warned her

9. And made his bark a sign
The dove understood his talk

10. And immediately flew to safety
Saved from the bird hunter's shotgun
