1. You have glories in the earth and the sky,
In which Hashim's father of angels stood,

2. The family sat for condolences, and
The weeping women cried over Hussein the valiant.

3. O father of loftiness and splendors, ask
Your forefathers, the flowers, is there an escape from death?

4. Death is the descent of white hair,
The neighbor of every fierce, dusty old age.

5. Nights are nothing but short,
And the world is naught but dreams of a slumberer.

6. The withdrawal of the lips from the teeth of coquetry
To the teeth of a regretter after the burial.

7. A year made happy then made miserable,
No one stayed permanently in bliss or anguish.

8. The wings fluttering in the domains of
Your sons are signs of early condolence.

9. That is Baghdad in tears, and Aman is
Behind the gloom, and Syria is solemn.

10. And noble Hejaz, a pure quarter
Of quarters of guidance, and the last fasting.

11. And we shared, so Egypt wept, and Lebanon’s
Eyes poured like the crying doves.

12. Arise and look upon your children in the East,
The crown’s ornament, the throne’s light, and the capitals’ radiance.

13. The virtuous ones are a race like Abraham,
And the good ones are like al-Qasim.

14. And if eyes afflict them,
There is protection from Muhammad and talismans.

15. God has built their house, so it remains,
What God has built, none can destroy.

16. They managed the kingdom in Iraq and the Levant,
So they instituted guidance and redressed injustices.

17. People were safe in their homes,
And the Arab lands became prosperous under them, and the non-Arabs too.

18. And they built a state beyond Palestine
Like pillars of guidance and resolute determination.

19. Its foundation is kindness, it is marvelously beautiful,
Like a garden’s interior, an alert, decisive one.

20. Cyprus was iron, but it lowered
Its spears to the valiant lions.

21. Time hated that a banner would rise
Under which beasts and turbans are rallied.

22. Arise, speak to Abu Ali, tell us
How you adventured beside the lean wolves.

23. You did not care for the beasts of prey in the sanctum,
And befriended the gentle gazelles.

24. Come, tell us about al-Awan, describe it,
Do not shy away in the dust, I am not blaming you.

25. We are all headed for mirage, and each of us
Is a morsel in the feast of the wolves.

26. We hoped for a share of the spoils,
But we met war, so we were the spoils.

27. Today, you made the issue dead,
Many a bone came to great affairs.

28. You are like truth which united people while awake
And increased their unity while asleep.

29. Far-reaching ambition is but a planted seed
With slow-ripening fruits and slow achievements.

30. Sometimes it is missed by the hand that planted it
And a coming hand surrounds it through time.

31. You stood at a foiled stand none of the Arabs
Had taken before you, O servant.

32. Defending kingdoms and people
Who were transferred in fists like coins.

33. For them is every water and every heaven
Is a stomping ground for horses or flight for eagles.

34. Why did you not invite them to lofty aspiration,
Knowledge, and encroaching ambition?

35. To traversing the seas and their billows,
And the heavens as they angrily shake?

36. To the celestial pole with ice upon it,
And the deserts and whatever doves are in them?

37. Wash him with the goodly water of ablution
Of the messengers, like a rose in its heavy rain.

38. And take from their prayer niches
A patch to enshroud the branch of Hashim with.

39. And borrow for his bier from the offspring of the pulpit
A rod, and from the honorable minbar.

40. And carry him on Al-Buraq if it appears to you,
For he is too noble for ordinary mounts.

41. Take Hussein beseeching his pillar,
As its corners call out and pillars pray.

42. And recall for the Prince Makkah, the palace
And the era of intimacy and goodly seasons.

43. The freeman yearns for home though
He is at a never-ending fountain of eternity.

44. Move the bier for an hour in the grace of conquest,
And circumambulate his Lord among the landmarks.

45. Stand with it for an hour in the soil of edifices,
Of his people, and the dust of clouds.

46. And bury him in Jerusalem, between Solomon
And David and the generous kings.

47. Jerusalem is only the home of revelation, the darling
Of every scholar from the ancient ones.

48. It is clad in mysteries, so the earth is
A legend forever, and the sky encoded signs.

49. And it dropped from Al-Buraq with amulets
And from the hoofprint of Al-Buraq with a seal.
