1. Measures from your eyelids have changed my state
So I have tasted passion after I was empty

2. They penetrated my heart with an unleashed arrow
And with magic predetermined and with a sword judging

3. And you dressed me in the garment of yearning, so I wore it
And came to love it as a garment, though it squeezed me

4. For love is nothing but obedience and excess
Though they multiply its descriptions and meanings

5. It is nothing but the eye meeting the eye
Though they vary its causes and motives

6. In passion, its description not its qualities
If they ask me what is passion, I say I do not know

7. And a loved one who had made my world present
Left me yearning for my distant world

8. I allowed my soul in his love to go cheap
And he who loves does not prefer anything over love

9. Nor did the flowing words of she-camels wander wild
Like these with which the tear flows streaming

10. I say to the one I bade farewell as the caravan travels
Despite my heart travelling, my heart travels with it

11. My heart is safe from your eyelids in passion
Enough of passion being a cup, rest and cupbearer

12. And do not make it between your cheek and target
From injustice that it becomes a frequenter of your fires

13. And I have a king filling my heart, beloved
Who I combined passion for in praise and poetry

14. For poetry is but an idea or a secret
Which it shapes into words that flow into the soul

15. O youth of the East who opened the worlds with virtues
And before that opened fires with glories

16. You ascended and did not outrun any limit of glory
Those steps and efforts rake the Pleiades

17. And sweeter than the nearness of the beloved in consent
Is your stay in the abode of bliss, pleased

18. And I have not ceased being foremost in the Caliph’s reign
Though I was second in the Caliph’s circle

19. And if Islam were asked what it wants
It would choose nothing but your continued harmony

20. For between you is affection and mercy in religion
And in the kingdom, God's covenant not to turn from each other

21. And affection has a guide not muddying its purity
But often the enemies tempt and excite

22. Receive, honoured sovereign, a greeting
Brought forth by Egypt and gifts conveyed

23. It rose upon it while the dawn was in its meadows
So oh beautiful day with its solar radiance

24. Bride of the eastern sky, you are its beauty
When adorned, you were the adornment and fineries

25. It hides for a time its beauty and youth
And it had filled its horizons from it

26. It spread the majesty of the kingdom in it, and its might
And its flags marked with triumphs and heights

27. And you came like the world when it comes
And like time in purity if it lasted clear

28. You gesture with a face of majesty and calm
From which guidance and favors pour unto the people

29. For this is the full moon that settled the course
And these are the clouds of generosity that sent down the poles
