1. O guardians of children, best of benefactors
Your hands are the hands of God, the helper

2. Look, when you gather together
You will find Gabriel the Trustworthy amongst you

3. He shaded the child and came to him
At God's festival, in the presence of the messengers

4. He mentions your favor through the ages
For those you have nurtured, girls and boys

5. They knew the times though not when they were born
So ask time, were they sinners?

6. Strangers to family, displaced from home
They found, through you, a home and kin

7. Say to those who, when told of their goodness
Turned away, aloof, grasping at comfort

8. Fear the days in your future
Have you made a pact with the years?

9. God will take, though the road be long
And man is judged for what he believed

10. He created luck, counted and apportioned
The Creator of man, from water and clay

11. For a hidden wisdom and secret reason
The seed thrives or the fetus suffers

12. One is born, the world bows down to him
While another lies in the corners, forgotten

13. The son of Chosroes does not inherit the banner
That the son of a slave receives, in Yemen

14. O Lord, you have aided the wretched through him
In whom treasure lay hidden, precious

15. A suckling, oozing misery in his day
Turned next morn among mankind, bestowing bounty

16. Or weak of dynasty within his tribes
He becomes his people's pillar and lion of the lair

17. Or long mute, blind in youth
He turns eloquent sage and brilliant guide

18. Or a girl, despised above the soil
Who gives birth to one the lofty scorn

19. Lord of the Nile and its valley as one
Egypt, innocent, the East, wise

20. All find joy in your call - none
Wretched or child, mournful

21. Take mercy on enviers, forgive foes
You stand by God, your people are steadfast
