1. O workers who toiled
And spent a lifetime striving

2. Cultivate the land, without
Your labor it would be barren

3. I have some advice for you
If you would hear my reproach

4. In an era where the sincere
Are few, or have vanished

5. Where are you compared to ancestors
Who immortalized this soil?

6. They accomplished wondrous,
Unmatched deeds and marvelous arts

7. They adorned it forevermore
With garments of glorious pride

8. They perfected their craft
Seizing immortality by force

9. God and mankind reward
The skillful and meticulous

10. Perfect your work so God may
Love you and lift you high

11. Are you content to see Egypt
Once home of arts, now in ruins?

12. O people, you have strayed
Far from righteous council

13. Be free in choice
And free in election

14. The people have an eye
That cannot be deceived

15. Expect them to say:
"Who shuns the workers, be gone!"

16. Not worthy is he who spews rhetoric
Or bribes with money, or boasts his lineage

17. Or sees ignorance as gain
And makes deceit his fortune

18. So choose those of honest youth
Who remember the Ansar of old

19. O negligent ones who crave
Sustenance early as birds

20. Seek truth gently
And make duty your habit

21. Walk straight, and God
Will open door after door

22. Shun wine, obey God
Or please scripture

23. It is foulness; blessed is
He who resists and repents

24. It makes hands tremble, and who
Trembles in his craft is lost

25. The reasonable mind
Prepares for what's to come

26. Recall the day of aged grief
When you mourn lost youth

27. Old age brings anxiety
And pain as it mounts

28. Make provisions from your wealth
For weakness and graying hair

29. Recall aid when sickness
Strikes, health now your ward

30. Save money for the day
You face loss against your will

31. The sin of vanity calls you
Seducer of fools in its thrall

32. A peacock—but what is beautiful
But the tail's plume?
