1. O Ahmad's heart, has your love
Struck you with its arrows and shot you?

2. You fluttered until you could flutter no more
And melted until you could melt no more

3. I do not say she has wronged you
Nor do I say you have wronged her

4. You and her are not to be judged
Both your hands are stained with passion

5. Your ways are the ways of love
God is enough for you in your love

6. What did you find from passion
And from its harshness that tested you?

7. When hearts are destroyed
Bodies draw nearer to ruin

8. O heart, my youth has left me
Yet your youth has not left you

9. I always see you pleased with beauty
As I knew you and your pleasure

10. Sweet are lovers' traits in love
To be praised, so you are praised by your love

11. If you aimed for the full moon
You would find no rest but your love

12. The branch of the sand dune, how much
I say wrongly the branch of the sand dune

13. Turn as you wish with the wind
For in the nature of that branch is this

14. Think carefully, take stock
My valleys, my breasts, your refuge

15. O you who owns me with his beauty
And grace, my soul I sacrifice for you

16. If not for the wish of Ibn Muhammad
Nothing would care for me but your harshness

17. God has placed you on your path
Then placed you in your bed

18. Egypt, and residing in Egypt, with
Patience bidding farewell and bidding you farewell

19. The good is in the sea I swam in
Not in the sea you swam in
