1. The land mourned the death of its conqueror,
The kingdom of plants donned crepe veils.

2. It stood on one leg like a grieving woman,
And brought stillness to all directions.

3. Nature held a funeral attended by weeping women,
And the stars of the land sat sadly at their tables.

4. The flowers wept crystal tears
In their calyxes, their cheeks gashed.

5. The wound of the healer was too deep to heal,
It filled the cups of sorrow.

6. The doves mourned their sheikh,
Their refuge in times of crisis.

7. He who taught lessons that bore fruit,
Not barren, empty words.

8. He fought the war on ignorance,
The war on empty chatter.

9. A beacon of light piercing the dark,
Bringing knowledge to the ignorant lands.

10. He was the pillar of glory for his people,
The gift of Egypt to the nations.

11. Say to the critic, do not judge
The nobly free for their faults.

12. The brilliant bear no wrong,
Diminish not their worth.

13. They are the tools of national glory,
Unequalled in merit and virtue.

14. They gather the remnants,
Revive our zeal and will.

15. Revered in life and death,
God revived the mummies,

16. Daughters and sons emerged from the dust,
And came to life from their tombs.

17. Hear Egypt’s criers glorify her,
And the crowds repeat her praise.

18. Those who seek her rights,
‘Mid tranquility and resolve.

19. Who make her their qibla,
When chanting or in prayer.

20. They found their ideal father,
Perfect in grace and manner.

21. Even the youth surpassed their elders
In wisdom, patience, care.

22. They weighed men by their worth,
And gave as each deed warrants.

23. Say to those who twist the facts,
Of past, present and to come.

24. Thought sent its messenger,
With miracles yet to perform.

25. Jesus of feeling, wherever he walked,
He brought life back to the nations.
