1. Small in coming and going
Is this all your business, O Arab?

2. The distances and the nearby have excused you
But who will excuse the afflicted homeland?

3. They did not ask about your children or ours
Nor did they care for the angry people

4. So live in Egypt, abundant in glories
Lofty in fame, grasping youth

5. I separate between two flows, Sailan and Egypt
In both, red are the clothes

6. May He who sent you into exile there turn to you
People from you, more deserving of repentance

7. By God, they did not own any repentance
Nor did they own the ancient punishment

8. Nor did they equal you in truthful intentions
Even if they equaled you in lying traits

9. A government of humiliation and ignorant ministers
As in your days when huts gave you life

10. And when they struck and your sword was not drawn
And when they entered and your shoes were in stirrups

11. And when hypocrisy was heaped upon you
And it was narrow with stupidity and altercations

12. And when glories were won with wishes
And enemies were fought with insults

13. And when couches were given in clubs
And crowns were given in jest of speech

14. You will see, if you but lift your eyes to Egypt
The men of the time, of those comrades

15. They have discarded your side when it strengthened
And resorted to a stronger side

16. And with the Bible, they swore to a people
As they swore before you with the Book

17. They want women without veils
While we today are more deserving of veils

18. So what do the living know about us
If it is said the Arab has returned?
