1. You are my affliction, O Kaltham
And you are my chronic malady I conceal

2. I conceal from people a passion that weakened me
And some concealment of passion makes me resolute

3. You have wronged me unjustly without suspicion
And you are the one I blame amidst us

4. I reveal what you hide overtly
I recoil from it regarding you or I undertake

5. Either out of despair from you or out of hope
That bestows with kindness or reconciles

6. Do not leave me thus dead
Granted no affection or severed

7. Fulfill what you have said and do not regret
Indeed the loyal of word does not regret

8. The sign that I came with neck
After familiarity and the living have slumbered

9. I walk softly fearing hostility
And the night is dark, overcast, gloomy

10. And before what I attempted when I visited you
Your brother and uncle together and the paternal uncle

11. And I have no companion but Allah
To you and the sharp sword the slayer

12. Until I entered the house and your eyes
Shed tears of compassion for me to gather

13. Then sadness and its terrors dispersed
And the frowner and sullen vanished

14. So I enjoyed whatever grace
Its throat and mouth grant me

15. Until when dawn shone its light
And the Little Bear and Pointers disappeared

16. I went out and the footprint was hidden
As it flows from its hiding place the shy
