In your absence, an ailment lingers in my heart.

2. You came, and my heart wandered in remembrance of you,
Plunged recklessly like a shameless gambler.

3. With a supple, fluttering bosom,
A thrilling one, no companion can endure.

4. When people count their virtues and glories,
No boaster should ever pride himself.

5. I see them humbled when awe appears,
As wrists were humbled before Chosroes' bracelets.

6. A radiant-browed Bahili, as though his forehead,
When the full moon appeared beaming bright.

7. He protected his honor with wealth, so wealth is a shield,
Yet he disgraced wealth while honor excelled.

8. In his sword lies glory and defense of the faith,
In his captives, life for the devout.

9. He traces back to the lines of Lu'ay bin Ghalib,
His father, Harb, a protector and builder.

10. Five forefathers succeeded in order,
Rulers whose reign was successive and just.

11. Pioneers racing ahead of all quests,
When the virtuous compete and vie.

12. They are the best of those between Hajoun and Saffa,
To where the valleys spill into Biṭāḥ.

13. They gathered the people to guidance,
While perversities parted the people.
