نبأ عظيم عنه قد أعرضتم

1. Great news you have turned away from
Or are you not, O people, the one being addressed

١. نَبأ عَظيمٌ عَنهُ قَد أَعرَضتُمُ
أَوَ لَيسَ يا قَومُ المُخاطَبُ أَنتُم

2. Nay, its impact has surely struck the ears
And departure has drawn near, so where, where are the belts

٢. كَلّا لَقَد قَرَعَ المَسامِعَ وَقعُهُ
وَدَنا الرَحيلُ فَأَينَ أَينَ الأَحزُم

3. These mountains on the shoulders are moved
This is Thabir, a departing camel and gathering

٣. هَذي الجِبالُ عَلى المَناكِب سُيِّرَت
هَذا ثَبيرٌ راحِلٌ وَيَلَملَمُ

4. This one who has anguished the wilderness by his loss
One whose virtue and knowledge you have known

٤. هَذا الَّذي فَجَعَ البَريَّةَ فَقدُهُ
مَن قَد عَرَفتُم فَضلَهُ وَعَلِمتُمُ

5. A perfume, Muhammad son of Al-Khuja the pillar
The flag, the shining, honorable imam

٥. طَودٌ أَشَمّ مُحَمَّدُ بنُ الخُوجَةِ ال
عَلَمُ الإِمامُ الأَلمَعيّ الأَكرَمُ

6. Breast of the Law, Shaykh al-Islām who
Was translating the secret of the Book

٦. صَدرُ الشَريعَةِ شَيخ الإِسلامِ الَّذي
قَد كانَ عَن سِرِّ الكِتابِ يُتَرجِمُ

7. And successor of Al-Nu‘mān, Al-Ju‘fī and one who
You find foremost in all sciences

٧. وَخَليفَةُ النُعمانِ وَالجُعفي وَمَن
تُلفيه في كُلِّ العُلومِ يُقَدِّمُ

8. His light filled pulpits and conferences
And by his merit all were submissive

٨. مَلأ المَنابِرَ وَالمَحابِرَ نورُهُ
وَبِفَضلِهِ كانَ الجَميعُ مُسَلِّمُ

9. Time has sworn it will never bring his equal
Cancel your oath, swiftly O swearer

٩. حَلَفَ الزَمانُ ليأتيَنّ بِمِثلِهِ
كَفِّر يَمينِكَ مُسرِعاً يا مُقسِمُ

10. Who after him for magnificence and awe
Who for precedence, speak up or ponder

١٠. مَن لِلجَلالَةِ وَالمَهابَةِ بَعدَهُ
مَن لِلصَدارَةِ صَرّحوا أَو جَمجِموا

11. Who for competence and alertness will keep alert
The misfortune turned away and mourning was installed

١١. مَن لِلبَراعَةِ وَاليَراعَةِ راعَها
صَرفُ الردى وَأقيمَ فيها المأتَمُ

12. Who will solve the most difficult, complex issues
Who will issue rulings and decisive judgments

١٢. مَن لِلعَويصاتِ الصِعابِ يَحُلّها
مَن لِلقَضايا قَد يُشيرُ فَيُبرِم

13. Of thirty and five years he has spent
Guiding, issuing fatwas and persisting in study

١٣. مِن ثُلثِ قَرنٍ ذا وَخَمسٍ قَد قَضى
بِهُدىً وَأَفتى والدراسَةَ يَلزَمُ

14. O you who depart as patience follows you
And tears write however they wish and draw

١٤. يا راحِلاً وَالصَبرُ يَذهَبُ إِثرَهُ
وَالدَمعُ يَكتُبُ كَيفَ شاءَ وَيَرسُمُ

15. The earth shook and hearts cracked
The horizon darkens and feelings ignite

١٥. وَالأَرضُ رَجَّت وَالقُلوبُ تَصَدَّعَت
وَالأُفقُ يُظلِمُ وَالجوانِحُ تُضرَمُ

16. Receive good tidings of God’s pleasure in an abode
Where the askers greeted you, alive, and bid peace

١٦. أَبشِر بِرِضوانِ الإِلَهِ بِمَضجَعٍ
حَيّاك فيهِ السائِلونَ وَسَلَّموا

17. And saw your palace erected in the Gardens
With spirits and delights arranged around you

١٧. وَأَروكَ قَصرَكَ في الجِنانِ مُشَيَّداً
وَالروحَ وَالريحاَنَ حَولَكَ نَظَّموا

18. And you left behind a scent in horizons giving help or accusing
And the greatness of your loss has reached such extent that history has composed:

١٨. وَتَرَكتَ مِن أَرجِ الثَنا ما سارِ في ال
آفاقِ يُنجِدُ عاطِراً أَو يُتهِمُ

19. The Greatest Imam is lost.

١٩. وَعَظيمُ فَقدِكَ عَمّ حَتّى أَنشَدَ ال
تاريخُ لي فُقِدَ الإِمامُ الأَعظَمُ
