1. Have mercy, for this grave now holds Ahmed
Ally of glory, might, valor and generosity

2. Chief of knights, whose fame took flight
Known for kindly deeds and readiness to aid

3. If praise immortalized man’s name
He in this land would live forever famed

4. If kindness warded off death’s stroke
Man would not don decay’s cloak

5. If the best of lifespans were made longer
The world would be sweet, his days stretched on

6. If I could ransom him with treasure precious
I'd give myself; my soul I'd give for his soul’s rest

7. He passed on, hopeful of peace’s home, submitting
Pleased, content, his face shows him resigned

8. An army bewildered surrounds him, missing him
No comfort have nobles, glory’s standard lowered

9. Would that fate had struck horsemen, not him
But the arrow of death flew straight and true

10. He left eternal bliss’ gardens as meadow
And breeze, greensward, soft-flowing stream

11. Requital for conduct and way of life
Known through days paired and singular

12. For good thoughts of God, if a man
Were to act on them, obediently worship

13. He was neighbor to this elder, alive and dead
To neighbors rights are due, in life and death

14. His grave now hosts, opened to guest
